I got done by this too. Luckily the online store I bought it from waived the re-stocking fee (which would usually apply, as this was an order-in part), so I paid the difference between this and the PCIe version. I swear I did my homework before buying it… just not enough, apparently.  ;D

Yep works great! Have a look through the x550e thread for details on that box. (x550e, x750e, x1250e are the same) Steve

@sirjeannot: ghm > any tweaks? what extra services do you use? Pretty much stock config - nothing fancy. Extra services are: Siproxd, blinkled (LED assignment) and an OpenVPN config - nothing spectacular but no performance killers such as Snort either (don't need it, have only very few open ports). One aspect that might be important re config: I need VLANs both on the WAN side (my ISP expects tagged frames) and for the various LANs I have. It seems important that once you use VLANs on a given port to no longer assign the parent port to a network but only the VLANs. E.g. If you have LAN11, LAN12 - don't just tag/assign LAN12 to VLANID12 (aka eth1.12) and LAN11 to eth1. Nothing should be assigned to eth1 if there are VLANs on that port. Hence LAN11 must become a tagged VLAN as well and assigned to e.g. eth1.11. What are you CPU / Mem loads like when you run into the maximum throughput?

I just checked my NIC card today and it it use Realtek 8168D chipset and it's actually accepted by default. I just didn't go thru the NIC assignment thinking that the auto detect can't detect an UP link. Now it worked just fine without any problem. By the way the driver mention in the above thread seem to case the kernel to get fatal exception on bootup and the kernel seems to crash and reboot in cycle. Thanks all.

Hi, Thanks for the answer. It's not on the 8.1 list :( I guess that means it won't be even in 2.0 then. Guess I'd better look for other boards! Thanks again

I looked into it a bit further and the AD3INLAN-G has the Intel 82541PI ethernet controller. When I looked it up it had the following specs. IEEE 802.1Q VLAN support with VLAN tag insertion and stripping and packet filtering for up to 4096 VLAN tags. Looks like I'm going to be picking this up along with the Mikrotik RB250GS. I found the switch for $55 shipped door to door. Thanks for helping me narrow this down.

Thanks Steve, I know these things are problematic and I'd like to avoid using one if at all possible, but right now it looks like it might be my only option. Believe me, if another solution presents itself I shall be on it in a flash  ;D I'm not sure why that chipset is showing as only 10/100 though. But if it works and gives me up to 50mbps, then I won't complain. I'll give it a try and see what happens. Cheers, Nathan

@kooby: Thanks guys. My serial shizzle came today and I am going to give it another go. Unfortunately the board doesn't have any serial ports and my IDE to CF adapter is in use with my current router with a different router software package. My bad. Must've been fatigue! I meant to say that the (Asus AT5NM10-I) board doesn't have any IDE ports. I will give the AHCI-legacy switch another go sometime soon.

Do they have a website or email address to let them know my findings? Did some more testing last night. If i do a warm reboot, the modem is active right after reboot. If I do a shutdown(fully take power away) I have to run the cdcontrol cmd again and goto all the config screens and re-save them to be active. Which is good to know since I will be unplugging the 3G modem to take with me when I'm away but when I'm home it'll be setup for fail-over..

Indeed you could. At 500mA it's going to be sinking 1.5W though which is kind of wasteful and generates heat in your case where you don't want it. Better to use a switching regulator. It's probably all 5V on the board anyway. Maybe worth further investigation.

What kind of adaptors are you using? I've never seen any which didn't have one problem or another.

Tried this a while ago (2 lines, 3 phones). Should work, as long as you don't do any traffic shaping (above say, 10Mbit) or 50Mbit+ routing through your ALIX.

If you could dig up the specs for the Nokia (chipset/interface) you could see if it is in the HCL for FreeBSD.

Seems far more likely to be a motherboard/bios problem since you have tried pairs of Realtek and Intel NICs. Have you tried one of each? Steve

Has anyone successfully run pfSense 1.2.3 on an Intel D510MO board in embedded mode? I tried using a 512MB and a 1GB USB stick but I cannot get pfSense to finishing booting up. It hangs at "Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ufs/pfsense0".
