Hello, I use Squid as an explicit proxy, but I can't bypass the private destination IP addresses. Do you have any ideas?

Hi, I had a problem with my home network today, so I checked pfsense and discovered that suricata had blocked the wan ip. After some tests and triggering some suricata alerts, the wan ip was blocked. I restarted pfsense and ran some more tests, but the problem no longer occurred. I then checked the wan interface settings and indeed the ip list does not include the wan ip, both now that it's working and before, when it was blocked. I'm using pfsense 2.8.0 and suricata 7.0.8_2. I use PPPoE to access the Internet.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@gorkrul said in Let's Encrypt Cert via ACME ask for oathtool (PFSende 2.8): so, what could be the solution then? or what other best practice recommended? acme.sh uses a 'scripted' or 'automated' login against 'INWX'. If an 2FA is needed to passs through, then, afaik, you can't use that access - acme.sh won't be able to grab your phone and copy over the challenge code. I'm not a 'INWX' (dono what/who that is to be honest) but I advise you to go to their support (foruim, FAQ, etc) and xheck how other, using 'INWX', set their acme.sh. Their support page said : https://www.inwx.com/en/offer/api where acme.sh is mentioned as 'possible'. here is a list with open issues with INXW : https://github.com/acmesh-official/acme.sh/issues?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20INWX - maybe yours is there also ? My pretty broken advise would be : stop 2FA ....

@manupfdude Interesting. Thanks for the detailed answer. Im also facing the same issue unfortunately where I need to auth again after an reboot. Are you with this approach having issues with the advertised routes not working ? I have to manually do (I havent tried your approach yet to see if this fixes the issue). tailscale set --advertise-routes=192.168.1/24,192.168.2.0/24 after I login. Even though they are set in the UI

This server has a high load too, around 10.000 messages per day. Tonight I'll undo my workaround and try to collect some logs for you (can't do it during workhours). I didn't find any clues on the log the last time. I verified the error using telnet: with postscreen enable I didn't get the helo message on the internal NIC and whit it disabled I didin't get the helo message on the external NIC.

Perhaps some default config which wasn't written into a .conf file. Go to every GUI windows and click save again to make sure all configuration is written to the files.

@Seb: Just suppress the alert (that's what I did). Joel Esler (who is 'responsible for the detection created for Snort' and works at Sourcefire) says that disabling this alert will not produce any additional cost savings (at least in the case of 'MESSAGE WITH INVALID CONTENT-LENGTH OR CHUNK SIZE' and, I assume, all preprocessor type alerts.  Read the whole thread (or at least the preceding and first messages in it) for more details. I suppressed the "MESSAGE WITH…" alerts, and will probably be suppressing the remaining http_inspect alerts. I cleared the logs, and will check them later tonight, thanks.

in my case, I just removed the WAN which snort was generating fatal erros for and after I re-added the Interface and reset the rules and categories everything worked back. It's probably some kind of software conflict.

@dvserg: You url www.müller.de will be converted by browser to punycode http://www.xn–mller-kva.de/ ( SG view last url only ) You must use one of services ( for example http://www.charset.org/punycode.php ) for converting you national url to punycode and use this in the SG filter. Great! I never heard of that. Thank you very much!

Hi, if you enabled "Not to allow IP addresses in URL" then users are not allowed to use an IP address in the browsers URL. To bypass this for some specific URLs/IP-addresses you must create a target and whitelist this target. So create a target and add all the destination IPs you want to whitelist. The on "Group ACL" or "Common ACL" select this target as "Whitelist" This should work - even if "Not to allow IP addresses in URL" is enabled. But I do not see a way to automatically use the IPs from pfblocker.

I just discovered this being new to pfsense.  Not a big deal as I did a backup before hand but I would think 99.9% of the time people upgrading the snort package would want to keep their previous config even if they normally want the config removed if they were to uninstall the package (to keep the config relevant to what is used).  I wonder how big of a change it would be to always treat upgrades with a keep config.

YOU'RE FUCKING AWESOME MAN!!!!!!!!! I DID IT.. Both sites now are accessible each on its own FQDN.  I LOVE PFSENSE and everyone here. BTW I have been using TMG and ISA since 2002 and never liked it .. and was waiting for the moment to get rid of it esp that some Microsoft employees told me that MS will not continue supporting TMG anymore.

The categories are only taken from there for the main package list. I don't recall though if the column in the Installed Packages list comes from that data or from the package's .xml file.

@mlafer: Hi, but for authentication I need to deactivate transparent proxy :-(, therefore I need to configure every PC, needn't I? What about the use of Voucher: a) normal user login with password: no Youtube access, but unlimited time; b) with Voucher: xx min access to youtube, but still Dansfilter active I don't think you would need to configure each PC - other than making sure they are setup to automatically detect the proxy settings. You would need to create a wpad.dat auto configuration file to allow automatic proxy configuration. You can search the forums here to see how to do it… The other option would be to leave transparent on and assign each device a specific IP address (in DHCP settings). Of course, this assumes that your boys have there own devices and don't have the ability to access another users device.
