Hmm that is alot more complicated than i thought!  I redid the shaper wizard again and its working much much better.  Im not sure how to add some of these rules manually, so i checked the box for the p2p catch all, and then selected all of the individual p2p services.  Now skype shows up again in the p2p que!  must be associating it with one of the rules… now if i could just figure out which one its using! As far as bandwith: p2p up - i assigned 256Kb realtime, 60% bandwidth p2p down - 256Kb realtime, 25% bandwidth ack up - 25% (standard) ack down - 25% (standard) queOthersUpH - 10% queOthersDownH - 40% queOthersUpL - 1% min queOthersDownL - 1% min Its working MUCH much better now.  I am able to skype with my wife and watch others surf the net!!!  After reading that last post, i cant claim that i know exactly why it works like it does.  I am still trying to learn though.  My question is this though - what is the difference between queOthersH and L?  most of the http traffic seemed to go through H, so that is why i traffic shaped it the way i did.  But sometimes the traffic will go through queOthersL - whats the difference? Thanks again for all your help and time.  I dont take it for granted.  ; :D

The video and files come over HTTP, so I'm not sure how to get the shaper to distinguish between regular traffic and extended length traffic (like the video). I'm comfortable using the CLI, if there is a method that way. I'm trying to do this without creating a list of known hosts to shape into their own queue. That will be my last resort.

I had similar problem with 1.2 and cant see shaper works here. It shows this same error and cannot limit bandwith of a penalty queue, for example. I had re-run shaper without success. any idea?

Nope, figured it out. I had all "unclassed or unknown traffic" going to my ptp queue which I had set at 56k speeds. Guess I need to be less concerned with actual "speed" on the network and start thinking "usability and quality of web experience".

Just do you classification right and you do not need scheduled shaping. The discipline that you have HFSC allows for traffic in lower queues to use the whole available bandwidth when available.

Thank you, after disabling the antilockout rule, the WebGUI is no longer being put into the default queue. It is now being grabbed by the normal HTTP traffic rules.

Just got a report back from the users that it is not perfect, but a lot better!  These problems may not be relating to shaping though.  I'm thinking my PSTN gateway provider may not be perfect.

http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,3201.msg19386.html#msg19386 has a pretty short but still true for version 1.2 answer. This will probably change for the next version. Ermal is working on some huge trafficshaper improvements.

The easiest thing to do is run the trafficshaper wizard and enter the alias when it asks you if you want to give priority to voip (unless you run voipapplications). This will put all IPs of that alias into a very high serviceclass.
