ISA is capable of running Layer 7 inspection, and is very good at it. PFsense does not yet, and I still use ISA2006 for traffic inspection and delivery to the serverfarm….L7 is the one thing I miss in PFsense, and the reason for ISA not beeing replaced.

I always wondered, what is the benefit for having a sip proxy installed? I am running an asterisk box for almost a year in my office with pfsense and without a sip proxy solution implemented and everything works great.

@Atlanta-Mike: Ok, so it isn't a problem, other than making the logs usless to look at? Correct. I'm not sure if that is something that can be fixed in the package or not. It appears to be it's normal MO, so it just spams the logs. The real log file might contain more useful info. From the console, you could always run a command like this: clog -f /var/log/system.log | grep -v promisc And monitor that way for suspicious entries.

@wallabybob: You started cupsd? ( ps ax | grep cups) No, cupsd does not start for some reason, don't know why. I followed the configuration guide, but every time the computer starts, the /etc/rc.conf file is missing. 3 Configuring the CUPS Print Server After installation, a few files must edited in order to configure the CUPS server. First, create or modify, as the case may be, the file /etc/devfs.rules and add the following information to set the proper permissions on all potential printer devices and to associate printers with the cups user group: [system=10] add path 'unlpt*' mode 0660 group cups add path 'ulpt*' mode 0660 group cups add path 'lpt*' mode 0660 group cups Next, add two lines to /etc/rc.conf as follows: cupsd_enable="YES" devfs_system_ruleset="system" These two entries will start the CUPS print server on boot and invoke the local devfs rule created above, respectively. I created /etc/devfs.rules manually and added the lines mentioned in the quide above, but there is already a file called /etc/defaults/devfs.rules present in the system. Do I need to modify the latter accordingly and drop the one created by hand? Should cups-base be pkg_add'ed as well? (I am walking in the dark here…) ??? ??? ??? Thanks!

Hmmm, that what I thought, but it didn't work.  I just now tried again, and it did, and I can confirm the root fs is mounted RW.  I must have had a brain-cramp somewhere, sorry for the false alarm :(

Thanks for your reply - Will ignore those messages The issue is now resolved - I noticed out of the windows a confused looking BT engineer outside the building while I was considering jumping and ending it all out of frustration. After my colleague approached/beat the truth out of him the mystery was solved. It turns out their was an issue on the line that out of some strange coincidence started as I was putting the new firewall. All sorted and fast as lightning now.

Start by reading this: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/MultiWanVersion1.2 You'll have to modify things a bit as it sounds like you want two WANs and two LANs. (Your picture link is broken) Look around in the routing and multi-wan forum, there is lots of info there.

Nope, the used dnsmasq is a relative simple forwarder. If you wan to support DNSSEC, you have to install a "real" nameserver. And for DNSSEC do not underestimate memory and crypto performance. I would prefer a real DNS-Server inside my boundaries…

I am also seeing sort of similar problems with 1.2.3 (also tried 1.2.3 RC snapshot)… I am trying to do inbound load balancing in front of 7 servers with different services, with 2 of them completely idle. I keep seeing: "slbd[327]: TCP poll failed to start to 10.1.1.106:143 in default (Operation now in progress)" and the service gets marked as bad.  10.1.1.106 is one of the idle servers. So I am not sure if OP's problem is just related to FTP or an incoming load balancing problem in general.
