@netblues said in Upgrade from 2.4.4-p3 to 2.5:

@NollipfSense And it was good they did. They benefit from much better vpn encryption performance.
The fact that dropping support for non aes-ni capable hardware could make the community smaller jeopardizing the longlivity and future of pf, is a far bigger problem.

In this case, have two versions for a win win. The new folks who just spend money upgrading could quickly jump ship limiting pfSense growth potential.

I would reboot the pfSense and when it completed, then reboot/repowered your CenturyLink modem. You'll then obtain an IP address for WAN.

nope. its 20 dollars with cable in denmark..

so i solved it in a funnier way..

    what i did was:

    create USB with version 2.5

    plugin keyboard

4-8 times enter untill the harddrive lights flashs red alot. ( installing )

    waited for about 5 min

then 2 times enter, to get out out the install process https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/install/installing-pfsense.html

and pulled the usb stick out.

    reboot...

The diskLED is flashing red, and the familiar boot sound from the board

then the funny part.. the auto configuration of the LAN

    3 enter

    3 enter

And then test the GUI, and it works. Im in.

    changes the setup to:

    WAN re1

    LAN re2

    and turns on telnet/SSH

    reboot.

SUPER.. no need for serial cable issues..

Who would have known to press the space bar to select the drives? All is good now. 😂

Worst case take a Backup and clean reinstall 2.4.4-p3 with the Recover config.xml Option: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/backup/automatically-restore-during-install.html

@jimp said in Installing pfSense on Mirrowed ZFS:

The installer can setup a proper ZFS mirror for you, no need to run commands like that.

Thank you Jim for responding...that's great news as I had spent lots of time trying to understand the pool and been a little worried.

I was able to solve it, I had to format the entire disk so that it accepts pfsense without problems, and that it does not accept another OS. Thank you very much for your quick response.

    Thanks for your reply.
But it seems the issue was related to BIOS and enabled secure boot ON

@Gertjan Thanks. Although I didn't read your reply in time - and upgraded to 2.5.0 :😁 It's my home router/firewall; so I only have a potentially angry wife and some angry kids :😆

Edit (and totally off-topic): I am very pleased to see that my host overrides work again - now I am running 2.5.0 :😸

Glad it worked out without too much grief.. Great learning experience for sure!

I use to run a proxy in the house back in the day when had 2 teenage boys to filter p0rn from.. But no reason for it any more, and internet is a different place - not like its saving you much bandwidth, etc. And now that on unlimited high speed connections, etc. as well..

Yes, but you can get detailed information for reinstalling the XG-7100 here: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/xg-7100/reinstall-pfsense.html
