      @shaungehring This sounds similar to an arp cache issue we had. We could not connect, ping it, then all was good. The network team did something to the arp cache on a switch to resolve it. I do not have details as it was many years ago.
      Maybe that will get you in the right direction.

      @wizardofwhere I think you have the pfsense plugged into the wrong place. I would have modem, to pfsense wan, pfsense lan to switch, vpn is going to take some work because that also needs wan access. You probably need the linksys plugged into same switch and rules on the pfsense to forward traffic for the vpn.

      SOLVED:

      I wish I knew why for those that follow after. I changed a few things at once so I'm not sure if one of or combination of them was responsible or the fix.

      I turned off TCP/IP on the WAN NIC. I rebooted the modem and router at the same time with cables connected.

      @sergei_shablovsky

      Hm. Looks like hard to find right answer...

      I need a little bit to explain the topic start question:

      What system is better for network-related operation (i.e. firewall, load balancing, gate, proxy, media stream,...):
      a) 1 CPU with 4-10 cores, hi-frequency
      b) 2-4 CPU with 4-6 cores, mid-frequency

      And how the cache in CPU L2 (2-56Mb) and L3 (2-57Mb) impact on network-related operation (in cooperation with NIC card) ?
