    Please search ….

    I think, have a keyboard AND screen attached to a network appliance is a very very bad idea because anybody can do anything (password or no password)... the best is to have a serial console ...

    Thanks…I didn't look in the UPDATES folder.  Any thoughts on how to get this installed on a blank CF card?  Last time I had the full EMBEDDED image to write using physdiskwrite.  The update looks like the unzipped folder structure.[

    If that snapshot supports it, there's no reason 1.2b2 or any newer snapshots shouldn't support it (that I'm aware of at least).

    Support for this card has gone in and out over the recent snapshots.  Not sure why.  Tested 1.2b2 and card was not recognized.

    Ok now it works. I'm not sure what the problem was, because I don't want to test more. It seems a combinations of some things. Furthermore I had a problem caused by a to fast running RAM, because of a SPD failure. Now all is fine :)

    In the PXE-Boot settings were also a failure. This works now too, but I tested it only with a VM, so the setup is still with BETA-1.

    If there is interest, I could provide a Qemu-Image with a FreeBSD as base to install pfSense via PXE.

    Thank you Scott,

    That did the trick (a case of "Read The Funny Manual" i suppose  :-[)
    but… after doing the upgrade wich took half an hour, i was left with an unresponsive system.
    I tried rebooting a couple of times, but no luck.

    So i did the physicaldikwrite anyway and restored my backup.

    Everything seems to work, except for the captive portal on the WIFI interface. I disabled it for the time being to do some further testing.

    One more question is there a way to backup the rrd database to an external system adn restore it later?

    rgds,

    @fcapizzo:

    I know you already fixed your issue, but I had the exact same issue when I first disconnected my WAN connection from my Netgear router to the WAN port of my box running pfsense, and I also have Time Warner as an ISP.  WAN would not obtain an IP address until I power-cycled the cable modem.  I wonder if the cable modem doesn't like changing the MAC address it connects to if it's already been connected to a different device previously.

    That has been my experience as well when changing Mac addresses on Insight cable as well.

    I had the same issues as you.  I'm using one of those little Hacom systems for my pfSense install, and I initially wanted to use a super-fast 1GB CF card to install it, but had all those DMA timeouts.  Via Google searches I saw lots of suggestions to disable UDMA and to set the access mode of the port (for the Hacom using CF it's Master on the Secondary controller) to CHS.  That didn't help, but I tried a 256MB card and that worked.  However I didn't want to use a small 256MB card so I went to some stores and bought the cheapest 1GB CF cards I could buy.  Sure enough, some cheap 1GB CF card that was on sale for $12 worked immediately.  I even bought another one to have as a backup.

    I don't know if this will help or not, but you may want to first bring down the speed of the interface you're connecting the CF card to down to non-UDMA.  Second, try some other cards.  I suspect that the nice high-speed CF cards have less of a chance of working than the el-cheapo CF cards.  Just a guess.

    @cybertron:

    8Mb+ is that really really fast? I dont know what the measuring stick is anymore these days

    ;D  I should have quantified that.  By "really, really fast" I mean 50+ Mb.

    is vmware host on Windows or linux?

    theres a guide to windows host setup here http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Installation_With_VMWare_under_Windows

    its not hard to setup and runs OK underVMWare so there must be something basic wrong with your setup.

    We need to fix the files generated so the date is actually the date it was created. I'm not sure why it's that way now. It's one of those things I'm going to look into eventually.  :)

    What you probably installed was 1.2b1 then, if you got it from a mirror. That should be a fine version to use for most things, unless you run into something that somebody says has been fixed in a snapshot.
