@quinox: Thanks for the answer. So if i understand correctly: 1. Attached hdd in bracket to usb laptop 2. Install Pfsense on HDD in bracket. 3. Install HDD (now without bracket of course) into alix cover 4. Boot Pfsense on Alix appliance. This is correct? Kind regards, Roland 1)  Install HDD in laptop or computer using IDE connection. 2)  Whilst in Laptop/ computer, use another PC to enter the webgui and set to output console on first serial port 3)  Transfer to Alix. 4)  Boot pfSense on Alix and configure via serial terminal.

That's what happens when running in compatibility mode in IE, should work fine not in compatibility mode with IE 7, 8 and 9.

The file is Gzip compressed so you need to uncompress it. In Windows you can use almost any compression program such as WinRar or WinZip. Steve

Try using one of the newer snapshot images. I just experienced similar weirdness with the February 2.0 RC-1 build. I switched to the April 29th build and everything worked like a charm.

I'm not sure. I haven't tried any of these images myself. I don't know how much they have changed. Given that they have their own upgrade files I would think that you need to use those if you want to retain VGA console. Let us know how it goes.  :) Steve

@zhantai: please please advise appreciate any help =) First step: help forum readers help you by providing more information. What are you trying to install? (e.g. "I downloaded file … and burnt it to a CD and ... " ) What is the last thing reported on the console when you decide the install hasn't worked? What is Softlayer? (Hosting company? Virtualisation technology? I know I could Google it but I'm busy too and how do I know my chosen hit is what you are writing about?)

I recommend you plug a computer into the LAN interface and configure the firewall rule through the web GUI. If necessary, make le2 the LAN interface (from the console) do your configuration through the web GUI, then reboot and configure le2 as OPT1 again.

Actually, this no longer really applies to the original post.  I'm going to post the new problem in the correct subforum since it isn't related to installation or booting anymore.

I switched to a different PC and am seeing things correctly now on the serial port.

Please don't post unrelated questions in somebody else's topic - start your own topic and it'll be easier to help you without confusion. When you do that, don't forget to give us more information. All you've said is that "nothing worked" - but not what you mean by that. Knowing all the IP ranges in use would be helpful too.

when you replay a pcap you have to do it in both directions, usually with two NICs on the same box, one replaying in each direction. You also may need to change things such as the MAC addresses in the pcap, depending on what they were when it was obtained.

it works the way you configure it, there are no issues in rules
