But I have a problem with the installation of pfSense. I want nanya how ya how to install pfSense (from the beginning) of the iso you have downloaded and already extracted through "7zip" then the pfsense want to install to a hard disk of a Blackbox (the hardware used to run the pfsense) in order to run. I and teman2 often found pfSense installations using CF (compact flash), but the context and different times using the hard disk. I hope brothers - sisters are more expert can provide a solution. Regards, Scorpionandy pfSense has two variants: Full & NanoBSD.  The former is designed to be installed to a hard drive or SSD.  The latter is designed to be installed to a CF card, SD card, or USB Thumb Drive and has some modification to limit the number of writes to disk. If you are trying to do a full install then you'll need to download the ISO, burn it to a CD, then boot from that CD and select the appropriate options as the system boots.  You should not be extracting the files from the ISO.  If you are trying to do a NanoBSD install then you will need a second computer where you can download the image, uncompress it, write it to your card (using physdiskwrite, dd, or similar), then transplant that card to the system you want to use with pfSense. Install FreeBSD in a virtual machine on your PC, attach the USB to that virtual machine, and you'll be able to access it. Maybe you should check http://ufs2tools.sourceforge.net/ too.

Unfortunately with a dual network failover configuration my current setup won't support PFsense at the edge of the network (only 2 ports available) I have considered setting up a PFsense router/firewall device, but with the cost of ours, and the fact the the owner just put more money out on it for support/updates he would be unwilling to pay out for another device. So am stuck where I am.

I finally got around to this upgrade by swapping with a different CF card, but that was definitely a pain to deal with.  For a Netgate m1n1wall, you have to take out the 4 cover screws, the 4 screws that hold the board to the case, and the 2 nuts that hold the serial port connector in the back.  Only then can you remove the board from the case just to swap out the CF card.  After that, it was just importing the backup config and allowing it to reboot one last time.  I know it bugged me just having to do this once, but I just feel bad for any admins that may have purchased these for multi-site implementations. Anyways, it's all good now.  Thanks for everyone's help!  8)

Are you using mSATA and flash memory card ? Why not loading the image directly on the disk and booting directly from ?

@TinFoil: I don't really need wireless clients to talk to one another, just out to internet. Would it be a big pain if I did? No. If you use the default 'lan to any' as a template for the rules on the other interfaces all the clients will be able to talk to each other. The default rule on LAN is very open, you can replace it with something much more restrictive or add block rules if you don't want that. However because the clients will be in different subnets they won't 'see' each other, in Windows Network Neighbourhood for example, even though the traffic is allowed. @TinFoil: Go into OPT1 for example, name it LAN2 set it to static IP but use 192.168.25.1 / 24 . Go into DHCP server, make sure it is also going to serve up LAN2 (will make pfSense be the one handing out DHCP leases, even direct to the wireless clients). Finally go into firewall rules setup an allow all for outbound but set it as LAN2 subnet? Looks good. The firewall rules in pfSense work to restrict only inbound traffic, with respect to the interface, so if you allow traffic with destination 'any' on LAN it will be able to reach the LAN2 subnet even if you haven't added rules on LAN2 to allow it. @TinFoil: Finally, can I make the newly created subnets also access the WebUI? If so, how. The webgui listens on all interfaces so it will be accessible from any interface that has firewall rules to allow it, which the default rule does. Put up a sceenshot of your rules if you're still having any trouble. Steve

Packages may have been changed to work with features in 2.1.4. Besides that there are security fixes that went into 2.1.4 that you should have. Do you see any errors in the system logs after installation fails? I assume you're running Nano from a CF card? What image size? Steve

So you booted from a memory stick? What exact image did you write to it? What hardware are you using? Steve

What's the pfSense WAN IP address?  If it's in the private range, do you have your General Settings set to block private IP space?

After 2 day of trial and error, I found out the hard way that the swedish tutorial at sweclockers.se was totally wrong (  http://www.sweclockers.com/forum/14-natverk-och-uppkoppling/889984-bygg-din-egen-router-med-pfsense/  ). In the tutorial it was said to do the LiveCD configuration first, and that didnt work at all, the installation program halted I never got passed selecting the LAN interfaces. Finaly after 2 days of trying to follow the tutorial I gave up and did the totally opposite of what the tutorial said, and formatted the drive and installed the software to the harddrive first, and then I ran the LiveCD and everything went like clockwork.

Hmm, tricky. So what's the difference? Is this a server issue or something related to the forwarding rules? (hard to know what that might be though). Not really sure what to suggest.  :-\ Steve

Sounds like the box is using the proxy itself and that setting is not being correctly removed. Probably better to post this in the packages section. Steve
