Are you still running the original CPU? If so you'll find powerd doesn't make any difference anyway. The 533MHz fsb models are not directly supported by est(4). To get the NIC LEDs working in a standard manner you need to swap out the drivers, see the docs page. I don't think anyone has tried it with the fibre ports though. What hardware do the use? Steve

@shailen: a dual jetway mini pcie intel i350 nic Oh… sounds great with the additional NICs. May I ask what case you got to fit the NUC board with the Jetway card? @shailen: I admit it is less affordable, but I really do not like the atom cpus. I don't like the previous Atoms either. But the newest generation Bay Trail ones with AES-NI support (Atom E38xx / C2xxx) look pretty nifty for network appliances.

Well, HP is convinced it's a driver issue, though the card is specifically listed on the compatibility page. Is there a way to verify that this model of card has worked under pfSense? Is there a way for me to get updated drivers? Thanks!

Upgrading the ram to 512MB will make it much more usable but finding a compatible module can be difficult. I've never tried it but there are some part numbers referenced in the x700 thread. Steve

@daniev: @dreamslacker: I'm not sure if your can replace the FIOS provided router though. Yes, this is possible I'm running like that already. If the ONT->Router is already Ethernet you can just use your pfSense router. If it's provisioned for MOCA, then just call VZ to swap it to Ethernet. I run my pfsense on N40L, I have added a dual nic and single nic so I have 4.  I have 8GB of memory in mine - thinking of moving to 16. Pfsense runs great on it as a vm under esxi - I would never go back to running my router directly on hardware.. With a vm, I can take as snapshot before I do anything with it and then can always roll back..  This is great when running development code, ie before 2.1 was released, etc.. I just bought one of these to test out with my Intel NUC. It Should work and from the datasheet I was able to find it doesn't seem like its locked to any specific motherboard make/model. http://www.logicsupply.com/components/expansion-cards/8111me-d/

You could do that quite easily with a core2duo for example. However that may not be the best option for you. It would probably use more power and you'd have to use old hardware. You could probably do it with an Atom but you'd not have much CPU power in hand for any future upgrades. Steve

Exactly, no arm support in pfSense. You could look at openwrt as an alternative. Steve
