the kernel tries to set transfer based on a weird guess :P check the BIOS settings for the drives, switch off DMA if on, turn on a lower PIO mode and try to reboot?

Thanks!!! Looks like I will be going with the Compaq cards then.  They will be going in brand new core 2 duo machines, so I shouldn't have any problems…..hopefully.

    Thanks again.

I'm certainly going to change one or two with Intel 10/100/1000 Mb nics.

    Thanks.

kernel/75710 has a patch which doesn't completely fix the issue, and seems to be orphaned.

the cue driver does seem to be dead.

I found a guy that is going to sell me a 512mb stick of RAM for $15 shipped.  That should get the build that I am working on for my folks where it needs to be.

Honestly I don't really know a whole lot about snort.  When I had my IPCop box I just turned it on, and subscribed to the Sourcefire VRT rules.

This is the first that I have heard of ac-bnfa mode, but it sounds cool.  I'll check it out

I'm not even sure if I need snort for my home network.  I never realized that it was such a resource drain.  Added protection is nice, but my main concern is speed.

Normally a WRAP can do more like 30 Mb, and has enough RAM to handle 60-80K states depending on what other features you use. Maybe monomon puts so much load on it that it can't do more than that, if you shut down monomon do things get better?

I have some C7-based embedded hardware that works great, never tried those though. If you get one, let us know how it goes.

    Hi!

If I recall right HP sell a firewall server for Microsoft ISA, the hardware is a HP DL320 and the CPU are Celeron, that why I think that for pfSense I am sure that the Celeron must be more than enough.

And for the NIC the recommendations is a good quality net cards (right now Intel or Broadcomm chipset, you get probably VLAN support, QoS tag, TCP Offload, etc.) and if possible all the cards must be the same model/brand.

    Greetings…

I got an Intel PCMCIA cardbus and this works much better.
The card can get 95Mb/s on a good laptop and also on my P2 400 runninn pfsense.

CPU is at about 75% though…..

I just need to find another one now.

So just need to issue a warning not to buy 3Com Megahertz PCMCIA cards!!!

I think this is quiet an important feature somewhere.

I was using IPCOP for a while and liked to see the RRD graphs with temperatures.

Modern Hard Disks have a temperature sensor via SMART so this is an option as well.
