@andrew_cb said in haproxy 0.63_2 weird behavior, edits not working: @iSagen @TheCyborgWeasel The issue is likely the same as in https://forum.netgate.com/topic/178348/haproxy-backend-port-changes-are-not-applied/ Try adding load-server-state-from-file none to the Advanced Settings > Backend pass thru section of each backend. Great! I will do this.

@NRgia said in Suricata on Pfsense: @bmeeks Thank you for what you did for Snort or Suricata. I'm not sure what you want me to do on Redmine, due to is a bug tracker. My question is for Product Management, which I will ask it here to be public: What is the plan for these 2 packages, Suricata and Snort? Thank you Yes, Redmine is for both bug reports and feature requests. Asking for the Suricata binary to be updated to the latest 7.0.11 version from upstream is a legitimate Redmine request. I would suggest simply asking for the binary version update instead of asking about future Netgate strategy (such as the support plans for the packages). Strategy discussions typically don't get very far because they deal with proprietary information or plans that a company may not want to publicly discuss. Redmine is where the Netgate developer team tracks all the code changes they make for pfSense. They will see Redmine reports much quicker than a forum post.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

@keyser if you want the less random more static time this: the code that needs to be changed is in pfblockerng.inc best to make yourself a patch file and apply it that way , so if the package is reinstalled (updated) or whatever. you can just "verify" the patch and just reapply. I ran with this (but different time) under 24.11 when I upgraded to 25.07 just verified and re-applied the patch. if you want look to look at at the code for the lines being changed just above that "if statement" is the comment // Define pfBlockerNG MaxMind/TOP1M/ASN Cron job name the patch whatever you like and set these behaviour options [image: 1755355045857-screenshot-2025-08-16-at-10.35.14-am.png] This is the patch contents (made just for you to hit the time before 2am) --- pfblockerng.inc.orig 2025-08-16 10:30:40 +++ pfblockerng.inc 2025-08-16 10:29:52 @@ -10669,8 +10669,8 @@ if ($pfb['enable'] == 'on') { $pfb_gcmd = "/usr/local/bin/php /usr/local/www/pfblockerng/pfblockerng.php dcc >> {$pfb['extraslog']} 2>&1"; // CRON hour is randomized between 0-23 Hour to minimize effect on Servers - $pfb_gmin = '0'; - $pfb_ghour = rand(0,23); + $pfb_gmin = '35'; + $pfb_ghour = '1'; $pfb_gmday = '*'; $pfb_gmonth = '*'; $pfb_gwday = '*'; In this I changed the time from the random top of the hour to 1 35 am (just before your 2am pfblocker update and with time to spare. However, I would recommend anything that is not at the top of the hour (0) minutes as that is when almost everything else gets scheduled.) FWIW. I also changed the "top" of the hour on my system so the pfblocker cron setting so that everything is offset by 30 minutes, and therefore don't conflict with other jobs that are also at 0 minutes (as most are) If you make this change on the dialog, then you might need to change the above, so it runs at say 1 15 am (adjust accordingly to suit your needs) pfblocker general page cron settings GUI [image: 1755356115122-screenshot-2025-08-16-at-10.53.11-am.png] next time it creates the job it will schedule it for the now not so random time of your choice. If you want to adjust the time and the patch has been applied, revert - edit the patch times (minutes/hours) only - then reapply. (unlikely you want to change the day month or week day, but if you did you would need a modified patch)

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@raidflex said in updating to acme 1.0 breaks system beyond repair: need to restore from backup: maybe uninstall Crowdsec when applying other updates first. It seems like it doesn't help at least from what I see on my system... it changes something.. so it must be definitely reported to their github. I have never experienced that before and crowsec was installed.. maybe with 2.8.0 something have changed

Upgraded 25.07 and Tailscale is broken in the way users here describe. I can manually log in using sudo /usr/local/bin/tailscale login, but the tailscale service in pfSense does not pick this up and restarting the service clobbers the login state. Given 16004 was logged 7 months ago with zero activity, this is an indication that Netgate devices no longer support Tailscale.

Strangely enough, checking the system 4 days later, I now see that Wireguard service is reported running! The last thing I did 4 days ago was to disable Wireguard service monitoring by the Service Watchdog. Anyway, even when it was reported stopped at first, 4 days ago, the tunnels were working flawlessly. Very strange. I will keep an eye on it.

I was having some squidguard problems too and tracked down a different issue than what I've seen in this thread. I am attempting to run the shallalist rules and after a lot of troubleshooting I finally noticed in the squidguard log that it couldn't find blk_BL_politics I noticed that there's a blk_BL_politcs (notice no i) but not one with the proper spelling.  So I just symlinked the proper spelling to the improper spelling and after that it seems to work fine. Thanks to the package maintainer for providing this software.

Snort has some kind of problem that it uninstalls itself at reboot, I'm not sure if it's a problem with the package system or the snort package itself, one or the other has some sort of bug. It will retain the configuration.

Sure, I doubt anyone here is going to turn away someone willing to contribute.  I suspect you'd get a lot of interest if you make a plug-in for Thunderbird as well.

@submicron: Please read the rest of the thread before complaining about things not working.  The button issue has been addressed in this thread, it does work, just not the way that you are expecting. The blacklist/whitelist count is currently broken and this has been reported to the developer as well. Finally, please do some reading to understand what spamd is and isn't.  It doesn't feature a way to blacklist or whitelist by domain.  That's not its intent.  Blacklists and whitelists are IP addresses only.  It also isn't meant to be the end-all, be-all of spam filtering.  It's meant to help stem the tide of spam and cut down the most obvious stuff.  It should be used in conjunction with a virus scanner on your mail server (at the very least). I did read and understand the entire thread, but since threads were aging and revision numbers weren't listed I was just making sure it hadn't been fixed and I was doing something wrong.  The whitelist button does /not/ work on my install, i understand that the page doesn't reload after the buttons are clicked- it's stated several times throughout the entire thread. I also understand how and what spamd does i was simply asking for an interface to the spamd.alloweddomains file, but since i'm not part of the bounty and this isn't the thread for that, forget about it.  The last question was about other peoples setups, i was simply curious if most were now running 3 boxes (PFsense  |  Clam/Razor | Mailserver). I thought I saw someone ask for configurations to be posted to help others out, and I figured that fell within the realm.  Here are my configs: [image: 6.jpg]

Thanks submicron! Yes, I plan on testing the SpamD package. (we might have a site to try soon) We like the feature set and configuration options of ASSP. (Email/Domain/Ip white list, Active Directory email validation of real email users. Not to mention the building/feeding, and whit listing of spam/not spam by users. But it also lacks some features) This is why I wanted to find out more of the history and where the old files could be. Wanted to try and see what i could do. It is a shame that it was not maintained…IMO...it is a good product. Maybe spamD has theses features and I just do not have my facts straight….will look more. (I do see IP white/black list) Thanks again

You're correct, the zabbix agent package doesn't start.  I modified it for my own purposes and got it working, but zabbix is a piece of crap and I scrapped it shortly thereafter.  Zabbix doesn't monitor FreeBSD properly so the Zabbix client, even if you get it working, will suck with a whole mouthful of teeth.

@submicron: Then follow the instructions that hoba provided. I had another issue that a fan was broken and the device wouldn't restart because of this failing fan after placing the changed XML back, I directly moved my other backup FW into the vlan and had everything working in seconds… the same day I fixed it as I did before by removing the part from the XML as mentioned :) Thanks !

@jan: Hi Guys, I've installed Squid and LightSquid respectively, I've also tried installing squidguard but don't have to luck to make it work, just used OpenDNS instead ;D  anyways back to the real issue, LightSquid seems to be acting quite odd. Although there are reports on the LightSquid Report page but when I looked at it the results are quite odd, e.g., for this day the total bytes is only 4MB. I have more than two hundred users and I can't believe they will only consume that much. Another thing is when I looked at the individual ip's report and compared them, all of them browsed the same three sites which is not true. I think Squid stopped for some reason that is why there the LightSquid report is odd and pfSense gui is still saying that it's running. Has anybody encountered this issue? How did you resolved it? Many thanks in advance. Jan Helo, jan, Be careful, as submicron - Global Moderator - Sr. Member, said on: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,5729.msg54580.html#msg54580 "In fact, … installation of many packages, some of which are problematic." I sugest you, to try the same, but installing less packages. Regards.

I have tried both fixes (curl and ini_set - seperatley) but finding that it takes forever to download the rules files no matter what I use. If I download the exact same URL that /usr/local/www/snort_download_rules.php is using at the same time but on a desktop that is on the LAN net behind pfSense, it downloads in a couple of minutes. (no caches involved) Multiple attempts on the pfSense box return the same results. Traffic shaper is turned off and pfSense is 1.2 prod. ls on the temp dir (eg /tmp/snortRulesJ0rIr3/) show it downloading, but very slow .. -rw-r–r--  1 root  wheel  167363 Jun 14 20:02 snortrules-snapshot-CURRENT.tar.gz -rw-r--r--  1 root  wheel  6637801 Jun 14 20:26 snortrules-snapshot-CURRENT.tar.gz Once done, the rules file is a complete file, but Snort downloading seems to hang and does not download the md5 hash. Is there any other additional hacking needs to be done to the snort_download_rules.php file to allow it to progress ? Does anybody have the above fixes to consistently work ? Thanks.
