Retested on 24.11-RELEASE (amd64) all seems to work. So it seems right to file a bug for this issue.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@EChondo What's your pfSense version ? The instructions are shown here : [image: 1753262126227-1acdc586-cb29-4148-9e36-81ade4e5e60c-image.png] A restart of a service will start by re creating their config files. If a certificate changed, it will get included. When the process starts, it will use the new certificate. @EChondo said in Issue with ACME Certificates Refresh & Restarting HAProxy: I haven't been able to confirm if the above works(mine just renewed, don't feel like doing it again just to test), so we'll see in 60 days I guess. No need to wait x days. You can re test / renew right away, as you are 'allowed' to renew a couple (5 max ?) of times per week.

Re: How to update to the latest Tailscale version? I am on latest released Netgate 6100 pfSense PLUS v24 ( pfSense_plus-v24_11_amd64-pfSense_plus_v24_11 ) pkg config abi FreeBSD:15:amd64 pkg -vv | grep -A 3 "pfSense:" pfSense: { url : "pkg+https://pfsense-plus-pkg.netgate.com/pfSense_plus-v24_11_amd64-pfSense_plus_v24_11", enabled : yes, priority : 0, cat /usr/local/etc/pkg.conf ABI=FreeBSD:15:amd64 ALTABI=freebsd:15:x86:64 PKG_ENV { SSL_CA_CERT_FILE=/etc/ssl/netgate-ca.pem SSL_CLIENT_CERT_FILE=/usr/local/etc/pfSense/pkg/repos/pfSense-repo-0001-cert.pem SSL_CLIENT_KEY_FILE=/usr/local/etc/pfSense/pkg/repos/pfSense-repo-0001-key.pem } This firewall is obviously running on FreeBSD 15 no longer on 14. But can I use the freshports link for FreeBSD 14 amd64 quarterly which is at tailscale 1.86.2 or can I only go up to version tailscale 1.84.2_1, and need to wait until they have a version of tailscale 1.86.2 or higher for the FreeBSD 15? Would it be good enough to tell it to ignore the OSVERSION? export IGNORE_OSVERSION=yes Note: use of 14 and not 15 ? pkg add https://pkg.freebsd.org/FreeBSD:14:amd64/quarterly/All/tailscale-1.86.2.pkg service tailscaled restart tailscale up

I've read through some other posts about this, but they either didn't say whether the proposed solution worked or they were very convoluted and difficult to understand. Here is our scenario: We have 6 locations--Las Cruces (LC), Sunland Park (SP), El Paso (EP), Abilene (ABI), Fort Worth (FW), and Plano (PL). LC and ABI have software that is accessed by the other 4 locations via VPN. There are WireGuard VPNs set up between LC and those 4 locations (SP, EP, FW, PL), and ABI and those 4 locations (SP, EP, FW, PL). There is also a WireGuard VPN connection between LC and ABI. LC and ABI have 2 internet connections. SP, EP, FW, and PL each have one internet connection. If the primary internet connection goes down at either LC or ABI and failover occurs to the secondary internet connection, is there a way to set up the WireGuard VPN connections so that they also failover without purchasing some 3rd party application? Thanks.

Don't install an MTA on the firewall. If you install the arpwatch package, it comes with a small script which pretends to be sendmail so it can send mail using the pfSense notification settings.

There was no issue with HAProxy. The issue was related with my Apache config, sorry for that. I'm now using mod_remoteip instead of deprecated mod_rpaf and appropriate log format options. On HAProxy side, it's only required to select option 'Use "forwardfor" option' in the frontend, as described in below documentation: https://github.com/PiBa-NL/pfsense-haproxy-package-doc/wiki/haproxy_pass_clientip_to_webserver

Thank you @PiBA. I changed my actions so that they use the ACLs. Works quite nicely. Regarding IP Filter / Authentication I found this article: https://hochwald.net/user-authentication-with-haproxy-on-pfsense/ I have not tried it, yet but I really prefer authentication over IP filter since you do not see if the filter works when you come from an authorized IP. I would have preferred an LDAP user backend but a static user list will suffice for me, too.

@PiBa Thank you for your reply. That lead me to another interesting thing. In pfSense's WebGUI the right certificate is chosen. I have a look into /var/etc/haproxy/shared_frontend and did: openssl x509 -in ip.domain1.net -text -noout And baam, the common name is 'images'. The letsencrypt certificate though had a wrong CN configured so that's what this is.

@johnpoz first off, I'm dismayed that you are belittling my request for support. If I wanted advice on how to best connect a remote printer, I would have asked that in the appropriate section of the forum. I've done the research and determined that a VPN is not the best solution. I don't (nor likely will) have any ability to change the network setup on the distant side of the solution. In most cases, they are built using off the shelf products that typically leverage one or two very common Class C network IP ranges. This would require a rather complicated split-tunneling VPN solution a user would need to manually start. I would also add that a proper VPN deployment is much more than running a wizard and dumping out a config file. As I received no such support, I spent hours researching solutions on my own. Here is what I've built, tested, and fielded, for folks out there actually looking for a solution: Most printers using standard IP printing use port 9100 and the RAW protocol over TCP. Local Side pfSense Firewall w/ stunnel add-on installed pfSense Stunnel Config: Listen On Port: 9100 (Can be whatever you like, as long as it matches the stunnel config file on the distant side.) Redirects to IP: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (Printer IP attached to the LAN (or better, a DMZ)) Redirects to Port: 9100 Custom Options: PSKsecrets = /conf/stunnel_psk.txt stunnel_psk.txt contains a list of identities and preshared keys in the format ID:Key. pfSense even provides a handy editor under Diagnostics once the file is created in the conf directory. Create WAN firewall rule to pass inbound TCP traffic on 9100. (Even better, only allow connections from specific public IPs you need to print from.) Distant Side Install standard stunnel from: www.stunnel.org then enable running as Windows service. Edit stunnel config file: ; encrypt outbound printing [Remote_Printing_9100] client = yes accept = 127.0.0.1:9100 connect = XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX:9100 (Public IP and the "Listen on Port" of pfSense firewall.) PSKsecrets = psk.txt PSKidentity = ID Create psk.txt in the same folder as the config file and past the same ID:Key combination from stunnel_psk.txt and restart the stunnel service. Then simply change the IP port of the printer to the local host and enjoy!

I just ran into another FreeRadius question, an found this : clog /var/log/system.log | grep "FreeRADIUS: User" Run it yourself on your system. Console access or SSH, option 8. Now, when user logs in, you have it's user name, right ?! Let say, the user is called "107" What about this : clog /var/log/system.log | grep "FreeRADIUS: User 107" Now, take the last line : clog /var/log/system.log | grep "FreeRADIUS: User 107" clog /var/log/system.log | grep "FreeRADIUS: User" | tail -1 My idea is : when you make your own portal login page and portal error page (the page where the red error shows teh somewhat misleading : ""invalid credential"") Edit this error page, and add some PHP code that executes these shell commands - and if there is some result (read : useful messages). Show the result on the error page ! Something like : User x has reached the daily amount of upload and download traffic (124 MB of 8 MB). The login request was denied. Now, all you need to do is scripting this together using some PHP and the commands you found above, and put it into the captive portal error page.
