Hello team, I have a Netgate 8200 running 24.11-RELEASE (amd64) with Suricata 7.0.8_5 package installed. Suricata doesn't seem to start. It loops to red once I press the Play button on the interface. It leaves no logs in the System logs, it leaves no logs in suricata.log at /var/log/suricata/suricata_ovpns933787/suricata.log I tried launching it manually: # /usr/local/bin/suricata -V or # /usr/local/bin/suricata -c /usr/local/etc/suricata/suricata_33787_ovpns9/suricata.yaml -i suricata_ovpns933787 and I get this output ld-elf.so.1: /usr/local/bin/suricata: Undefined symbol "__strlcpy_chk@FBSD_1.8" Thanks in advance, Dara

@kabeda If memory serves, that old version of ntopng did not run as user ntopng, but as user nobody. There are lots of problems in that old version. Anyway, check the ownership and permissions of /var/db/ntopng and make sure it matches the user that ntopng runs as. You may need to set ownership of the entire hierarchy. Example: /usr/sbin/chown -R nobody:nobody /var/db/ntopng However, the better choice would be to upgrade to a more recent version.

@vicking said in No blocks on IP: Is it a bad idea to have the action set to deny both instead of inbound only? Question is squarely for admin. Per the infoblock which explains, in part, the "Deny Inbound", "Deny Outbound", and "Deny Both" actions: 'Deny' Rules: 'Deny' rules create high priority 'block' or 'reject' rules on the stated interfaces. They don't change the 'pass' rules on other interfaces. Typical uses of 'Deny' rules are: Deny Both - blocks all traffic in both directions, if the source or destination IP is in the block list Deny Inbound/Deny Outbound - blocks all traffic in one direction unless it is part of a session started by traffic sent in the other direction. Does not affect traffic in the other direction. One way 'Deny' rules can be used to selectively block unsolicited incoming (new session) packets in one direction, while still allowing deliberate outgoing sessions to be created in the other direction. In other words: When set to "Deny Inbound", incoming connection requests from WAN hosts are blocked and therefore no state will be created. However a LAN host can still establish state to an otherwise listed IP. If set to "Deny Outbound", outgoing connection requests from LAN hosts are blocked and therefore no state will be created. However an incoming connection request from an otherwise listed IP to an 'open' WAN port can still establish state. If set to "Deny Both", both incoming connection requests and outbound connections requests are blocked and therefore no state will be created regardless of connection direction.

I am using the DNS-Update method I have to use a DNS-Sleep of 5 minutes to let the letsencrypt txt dns record update propagate. During this 5 minutes the acme-webgui times out. when the acme-webgui times out the Action list is NOT executed. How can I solve this ? Would it maybe be an idea to let the acme.sh script execute the actions in the action list as a post-hook instead of the web-gui? Or maybe add an option to add post-hooks in the webUI ?

@luckman212, Thanks for your suggestion. I will check what I have in /usr/local/pkg/tailscale/state, and also the RAM disk settings others have brought up. I could learn more about where Tailscale and pfSense store system files. If I find anything worth sharing, I will let you know.

@andresbraga if you still have the firewall rules as you posted, then I don't know why from the laptop you can't ping the pfSense Wireguard address 10.10.6.1 nor the pfSense gateway 10.10.1.1 What is the routing table of the laptop. And I would run a packet capture on pfSense and check what you see if you run the ping to 10.10.1.1 or 10.10.6.1.

@doktornotor: Either flush the states or reboot the box. Instead of disabling it, you could of couse also stop using blocklists that apparently do not fit your needs. Or, whitelist the sites in pfBNG. Or…. just read the pfBNG GUI hints. Ok that works. Thank you very much for the help Alex

https://github.com/pfsense/pfsense-packages/pull/1072 (If all of this got eval()-ed on install and the install aborted due to buggy code, we'd get a useful error and quick fix. Not a stupid bug hidden in the code for months… )

Thank you! I never thought of creating a NAT rule to do a redirect. That definitely did the trick.

Hi, would also try it with Captive Portal and disallow simulatenous connections. So when someone give the password to someone else then they are kicking thmself off the network because only the least active connection will have access. So on the first days they will share their credentials but if there are 10 people sharing the same credentials they will not have any fun with that.

I love it how people justify garbage setups because of minuscule costs.. So you could pickup a pogo plug (tiny computer) for under $20 uses like zero power.  You could pickup a pi again for under $35 for sure.. You could get the latest and greatest pi 2 b+ kit with SD card, etc.. for $55 uses like nothing for power.. pogo you can run arch linux on, has usb 2, usb 3 and even 1 USM/SATA Slot http://www.amazon.com/Pogoplug-Series-4-Backup-Device/dp/B006I5MKZY So your setting up something that clearly is unsupported because its a power saving issue, or cost of running a new piece of hardware?  That you can get for pennies?  Clearly you paying for internet, have a laptop, and most likley multiple pcs?  Since you mention old PC buty don't want to leave it on because of power. But you can not afford $20 to have a new toy to play with!!!  And also provide your samba sharing server…

So yeah ran into the same issue.. Pretty simple work around just use openssl to put a password on it. So your saying you can import the .key file without a password?  I will have to try that - but I agree its a bit of a hassle. Did you import the server cert?  I my iphone 5s, my wifes 5c and my older ipad all using eap-tls to auth with out any issues. Sep 13 07:56:26 radiusd[57374]: Login OK: [j-phone] (from client uapac port 0 cli AC-FD-EC-62-34-97) j-phone Sep 13 07:31:05 radiusd[57374]: Login OK: [k-iphone] (from client uap-ac-lr port 0 cli 80-00-6E-9D-EA-DE) k-iphone Here are too recent auths from the log for my phone and my wifes phone. What I ended up installing was the p12 you can export after putting a password on it and the actual server cert and eap-tls is working great..

@johnpoz: Well there are instructions right - so do it that way.  Why do you need a package?  While many of the packages are written by people that wanted some functionality to me, and this is only my personal opinion since I have no ties to the development. The inclusion of a package you can click an install is somewhat of a signoff by the developers that it is ok to do such a thing.  Take freeradius package for example or the vnstat2, or snort or squid.  While these packages sometimes break and can break functionality of the pfsense in general.  I might be in left field on that, but that is how I see it. You don't see any packages for turning pfsense into a nas now do you ;)  Many a request for that over the years. If you want a package, please create one or maybe put in a bounty for it, etc.  If gets high enough sure someone will take it on - then it would be up to the developers if included in the package list or not, etc. But for now if you really want it running on pfsense - I am quite sure I have seem a quide or even 2 on how to do so over on the unifi forums. I had this running on my pfSense appliance and it was a huge problem. Most services would not start upon reboot and that's if a requested reboot would take place. UPnP would not work due to the Java using a shared port (1900 if I recall). This would need to be a supported package or just not run on the pfSense appliance. I went with the latter.

Who are you hiding this traffic from?  Your isp.. Well just use a vpn and now your resolvers queries to its authoritative servers would not be seen by your isp.

@ashima: I am sorry for the late reply… but I didn't get your point - 0.1.1 is merged no need for manual hack. Does that mean I need not install ipguard and I can do MAC-IP pairing. No, I mean you can simply install the updated package….

@doktornotor: There's nothing horrible about bind. Running public DNS server on your firewall is entirely different matter. Frankly, unless this is running on some fat line serverhosting/VPS, I'd just completely forget about running my own DNS server. It can be run for free by your domain registrar, or by HE Free DNS service, or whatever. No idea what do you mean by "default" ACLs. Would assume default is just deny which your logs are pretty much confirming. This ^^

Ok finally got back to this.. I want to use just eap-tls, so there really is no reason to create a user in freeradius, just create the user cert in the CA.  If there is no user there is no way to auth without the cert.  So this solves my problem, now that I figured out how to install the certs on apple ios devices I can play with this more and switch over to wpa2 enterprise only for my normal wlan and just leave psk for guests to use.
