@NRgia said in Suricata on Pfsense: @bmeeks Thank you for what you did for Snort or Suricata. I'm not sure what you want me to do on Redmine, due to is a bug tracker. My question is for Product Management, which I will ask it here to be public: What is the plan for these 2 packages, Suricata and Snort? Thank you Yes, Redmine is for both bug reports and feature requests. Asking for the Suricata binary to be updated to the latest 7.0.11 version from upstream is a legitimate Redmine request. I would suggest simply asking for the binary version update instead of asking about future Netgate strategy (such as the support plans for the packages). Strategy discussions typically don't get very far because they deal with proprietary information or plans that a company may not want to publicly discuss. Redmine is where the Netgate developer team tracks all the code changes they make for pfSense. They will see Redmine reports much quicker than a forum post.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

@tinfoilmatt said in Failed or invalid Mime Type: [application/SIMH-tape-data|0]: (ASN data is IPinfo, not Maxmind) Thats correct but "GeoLite2-Country" is from Maxmind ... (that confused me) I'm considering simply adding "application/SIMH-tape-data" to the list to test. Thats what i tought too ... I'll try when I have the time for it ... Edit: I can confirm - adding "application/SIMH-tape-data" to the list at line 257 in /usr/local/pkg/pfblockerng/pfblockerng.inc did the trick - no more error! Edit: OK, problem resolved but I would like to know, whats the cause for that error! (SIMH-tape-data sounds like a "blast from the past" ...) Thanks a lot!

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

I have Wireguard installed on my firewalls. I have about 12 firewalls and most of them connect back to the main firewall which allows the connection to the servers in the main building. I setup a tunnel on each and then added each location as a peer on the Main firewall. This seemed to work except that the gateway. unde3r Monitor IP it only allows one IP address. So the first one works and shows connected fine, but the other 2 are red and do not connect. Everything seems to work until I added a 3rd peer and then the 1st peer showed as if it was offline even though it looked fine and I was able to connect to devices on that network. Am I supposed to add multiple gateways to the Main firewall so that shows as up? Is this the right way for the tunnels between the buildings which need access will work - By adding a tunnel at that location and just adding a peer to the main location?

I saw the same thing at varnish report. Every time you apply settings, it will be included. Make report simple and it will never return.

Hi, I'm also new to snort… I'm just wondering if there is any easier way to search for a rule. I have a lot of them and when I want to review one upon an alert, I have to do find the matching one by hand.. The same with suppression....

You can use all: I've set this scenario some times and it worked very well. Https -> haproxy –--                             |---> apache + modsecurity -->  webserver Http -> varnish ------ You can Also set this: Apache+modsecurity ---> varnish --->  web servers(/test)                                            |-----> Web servers (/test2) In this case, apache handles ssl. Notes: Apache can do what you want but today the package Does not include this option. May be in a close future I may include this feature to gui. Varnish is faster then apache as a reverse proxy, do a test if you have time.

@stvboyle: I seem to be having the same problem.  I'm running: 2.0-RC3  (amd64)  built on Tue Sep 6 17:46:35 EDT 2011 Installed snort, configured updates, enabled a WAN interface, enabled all preprocessors, enabled some rules, started it on the interface.  Its been running for about 12 hours now and no alerts.  Not sure how to troubleshoot the issue.  Any suggestions are appreciated. Have a look at http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,37557.285/topicseen.html for the cause and the solution of this issue.

If you are using auth and msn client can't use your authentication method, you will ser this error. Check in log if urls that has a tcp_miss has also a username. You may need To create An acl by client address and map msn urls.

You can also try memory cache, its faster then Disk. With a lot of sites setting sessions, squid is not so efficient To handle this.

I'm all set, now… When I made it back to my test network earlier today there were system log entries on the pfSense box showing the ethernet interfaces had been restarted. The reason they restarted on their own while I was doing other things is a mystery to me, but they did restart. Shortly after that, Snort kicked off successfully for both interfaces I set it up on and was running just fine. Again, not sure why it decided to start right up on its own, but I had asked it to start repeatedly before working on other things, so maybe it just did what I told it to as soon as it could.  ??? I notice it clearly states on the Snort service web-interface that the interfaces will need to be restarted to pick up changes. Changes like just installing it to configuring it to run for the first time, say? Nice  ;D Once I had a running Snort install and the correct arguments for 'ps', it was easy to answer my own questions.

one possible cause for this that i have found: I was testing the cron command that updates the rules by running it manually.  The first time i got a few duplicate SID warnings.  I went and disabled a few rules and re-enabled them and ran it again and got a bit different output. Line 15 is: enablesid Line 19 is: disablesid I then went and disabled/reenabled a few more rules, and when i ran the update command i got more of the WARNING: line xx in your oinkmaster_blah.conf is invalid.  All of the warning lines were either "enablesid" or "disablesid" with nothing more. Each time i disabled a rule and ran the update, it would add one more "disablesid" to the /usr/local/etc/snort/snort_<interface_id>/oinkmaster_<interface_id>.conf file and each time i enabled a rule and ran the update it would add one more "enablesid" to the same file. I'm not sure how this relates to the problem, but it seems like snort is not able to keep track of which rules are enabled/disabled properly and when it merges the updates with the current rules it formats them in a way that the web interface cannot handle. Output below and the oinkmaster_blah.conf at the bottom: first time: [2.1-DEVELOPMENT][admin@pfsense]/root(19): /usr/local/bin/php -f /usr/local/pkg/snort/snort_check_for_rule_updates.php >> /tmp/snort_update.log WARNING: duplicate SID: 3017 (discarding old) WARNING: duplicate SID: 17462 (discarding old) cp: /usr/local/etc/snort/generators: No such file or directory cp: /usr/local/etc/snort/sid: No such file or directory rm: /usr/local/etc/snort/tmp/rules_bk: No such file or directory ls: /tmp/snort.sh.pid: No such file or directory rm: /tmp/snort_download_halt.pid: No such file or directory second time: [2.1-DEVELOPMENT][admin@pfsense]/root(19): /usr/local/bin/php -f /usr/local/pkg/snort/snort_check_for_rule_updates.php >> /tmp/snort_update.log WARNING: duplicate SID: 3017 (discarding old) WARNING: duplicate SID: 17462 (discarding old) cp: /usr/local/etc/snort/generators: No such file or directory cp: /usr/local/etc/snort/sid: No such file or directory Loading /usr/local/etc/snort/snort_49866_em0/oinkmaster_49866_em0.conf WARNING: line 15 in /usr/local/etc/snort/snort_49866_em0/oinkmaster_49866_em0.conf is invalid, ignoring WARNING: line 19 in /usr/local/etc/snort/snort_49866_em0/oinkmaster_49866_em0.conf is invalid, ignoring Copying rules from /usr/local/etc/snort/rules… 76 files copied.
