Hi, I had a problem with my home network today, so I checked pfsense and discovered that suricata had blocked the wan ip. After some tests and triggering some suricata alerts, the wan ip was blocked. I restarted pfsense and ran some more tests, but the problem no longer occurred. I then checked the wan interface settings and indeed the ip list does not include the wan ip, both now that it's working and before, when it was blocked. I'm using pfsense 2.8.0 and suricata 7.0.8_2. I use PPPoE to access the Internet.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

Ran into this issue today as well running on 25.07.1 with pfblockerNG-devel 3.2.7. Followed the steps outlined in this thread to edit the pfblockerng.sh file, then deleted/force reloaded all the lists, and all was well again. Thank you everyone in this thread for your your help and great instructions.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@provels said in updating to acme 1.0 breaks system beyond repair: need to restore from backup: This same mess happened to me, even w/o Acme, going from 25.07 to *.1. Blew, reinstalled w/ Crowdsec, blew again, reinstalled, clipped all the Crowdsec info from config.xml, restored config, back to normal. Crowdsec is a great concept, but I think I'm out. I never had this issue with Crowdec before the ACME update, even with updating from 2.7 to 2.8 there was no issues. In fact after restoring from a backup after the ACME update, Crowdsec reinstalled just fine, and this was before the recent release a couple days ago that contained a fix.

Hi all, I wanted to share that I’m also experiencing issues with Tailscale (v1.86.4) on the latest pfSense CE (v2.8.0). After either a pfSense reboot or a Tailscale service restart, my node is logged out of Tailscale — exactly as many of you have described here. It bothered me enough that I opened a support ticket with the Tailscale team. I explained the problem, included details, and linked this thread as a reference. The good news is that support responded quickly and said they’re setting up a pfSense VM to reproduce the issue. In the meantime, they suggested a workaround: “Based on the behavior described here and in the thread, it looks like the auth key used for authentication may be expiring. Since OAuth clients don’t expire, switching to an OAuth Client rather than an Auth Key might resolve this. See our docs here: https://tailscale.com/kb/1215/oauth-clients#registering-new-nodes-using-oauth-credentials I tested this, and after configuring Tailscale with OAuth, everything worked! Tailscale now stays connected and authenticated even after a reboot or service restart. That said, I did tell support that while OAuth solves the issue, it used to work out of the box with the simpler interactive login / auth key flow. Something seems to have changed on the Tailscale side, and I hope they identify and fix it. But until then, the OAuth workaround is a solid fix. I’d love to hear how it’s working for the rest of you. Anyone else try OAuth yet? Cheers

I figured out the issue. I missed adding the 3rd locations Lan to the static routing. Now all is working perfect.

It must be something like that, but not sure why all are not impacted. I have two OpenVPN tunnels from my house in Atlanta to some servers north of the city, each going to a separate LAN interface on that pfSense, might that be the culprit? That network has two subnets for PCI Compliance (Internet facing servers separated from internal stations and not allowed to talk to the internal nodes).

Thanks for the response…I agree, I have thought of the parent/child proxy set up - but you are right, bandwidth usage would be very inefficient, so I don't really want to go that right...if there is no way to centralize the config, then we will just keep modifying them all :) Thanks! Q

There won't be enough room in /var on an ALIX to handle that. The blacklists should probably be downloaded to /root instead so it can work on nanobsd. Though with the amount of data and processing that goes into setting up the blacklists, be aware that it will cause a lot of writes on your CF, potentially shortening its life.

The mac-to-vendor code is in 2.0 proper now, but I don't know if we'll include that list on the box by default. We use the version of that file that comes with the nmap package, which is generally the latest one seen in FreeBSD's ports tree. As I mentioned in another thread, you can always pull in the most recent version without nmap like so: mkdir -p /usr/local/share/nmap/; fetch -o /usr/local/share/nmap/nmap-mac-prefixes http://nmap.org/svn/nmap-mac-prefixes

That filter.inc line is a test to see if UPnP's options are set to be enabled. Not sure exactly what FreeRADIUS may have done that would have made that fail though. I have installed and uninstalled FreeRADIUS a few times in the past and didn't have issues. You can edit a config.xml backup, it's just plain text XML, find the section with the <package>…</package> tags for FreeRadius and remove them, and then restore the backup.

Hi, in the past we talked about caching Kaspersky updates: I tried this: refresh_pattern -i .*kaspersky\.com/.*\.(.*) 1440 100% 1440 reload-into-ims override-expire override-lastmode; refresh_pattern -i .*kaspersky-labs\.com/.*\.(.*) 1440 100% 1440 reload-into-ims override-expire override-lastmode; I think this is working just fine for the "Kaspersky Offline Updater Tool" http://support.kaspersky.com/updater?level=2 Need more testing if it works with the "normal" updater function of the client software. Perhaps someone else will find some time for this. Further I found out, that if we use range_offset_limit -1 squid is still downloading files even if the user has left a website or canceld some download. To avoid this, I am using this: quick_abort_min 0 KB; quick_abort_max 0 KB; quick_abort_pct 100; For windows updates I am using this without any errors in syslog and with success: refresh_pattern -i .*microsoft\.com/.*\.(cab|exe|msi|msp) 129600 100% 129600 reload-into-ims; refresh_pattern -i .*windowsupdate\.com/.*\.(cab|exe|msi|msp) 129600 100% 129600 reload-into-ims; To avoid, that a user is getting still a "Error 404" if a website wasn't available for a short time and then ist up again because of the high time for negative dns I am using this: negative_ttl 5 second; negative_dns_ttl 5 second; I am using this all in squid "Custom options". It would be really nice if someone else could test and verify this or post some other usefull squid options. For me it was hard to find these parameters and so I wnat to share them and get some feedback.

    Hi, I found out, that the first part is nonsense. one times "range_offset_limit -1" is enough. Further I found out, how to cache kaspersky updates: refresh_pattern -i .*kaspersky\.com/.*\.(.*) 1440 100% 1440 reload-into-ims override-expire override-lastmode; refresh_pattern -i .*kaspersky-labs\.com/.*\.(.*) 1440 100% 1440 reload-into-ims override-expire override-lastmode; For me this works - I think.

I am already have havp working with my proxy cache. the issue I have is that when the systems reboots clamd takes a lot for start up. Meanwhile i can not get to internet , i can not get web pages in my browser. After about 8-10 minutes the system start to work normaly and clamd seem to be started. The page setup shows the clamd  down after about 8-10 mins. of restarted. Any ideas what is happening ? I already have configured the havp as parent proxy for squid.

Its really easy: Install squid, at general settings set "proxy port" to 3125. Squid is set as transparent proxy. Install squidguard and configure it. Now install havp and configure it as "parent for squid", "proxy port" set to 3125. Thats the short story, should work. Try first only squid - squidguard to get that working, then after success install/configure havp. with privoxy i can't help. sorry

There is no viable way to install a package manually. It may be possible but the procedure is very prone to user error and you'd likely break something in the process. Alternately, you can setup your own local package repository on a computer you have access to and then serve the package files from there: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Creating_Your_Own_Package_Repository

Yes you have to disable the port scan rule it's triggering, which is the UDP port scan rule IIRC. RTP in volume looks like a UDP port scan. Some manual hacking of the rule to make it less prone to those false positives may suffice. That's more a question for Sourcefire, we don't have any involvement with the rules.
