Can I use pgblockerng aliases in Haproxy?

    80758505-9bad-4dad-a80b-c159be1045a2-image.png

If it was a firewall rule, typing pfb would produce a dropdown to select.

Here it has to be written, but will it work? Is it supported?

@bmeeks So after upgrading to the newest PfSense 2.8.0 everything is now working like a charm!

Suricata no longer seems to strip off tags like it did before! Which means I can now use my network segmented by VLANs and still use the benefits of Suricata Inline IPS! Very niiize!

I checked in the Alerts section and it is indeed generating the correct alerts from the different VLAN sections, I put Inline IPS on the parent interface of all the VLANs.

I assume this is because the FreeBSD version is also updated with the new PfSense 2.8.0 version?

Because before, as soon as I selected Inline IPS mode, my entire VLAN tagging would break and nothing was reachable until I switched back to Legacy mode.

The database name is vnstat.db and its location is under /var/db/vnstat.
With "Backup Files/Dir" we are able to do backup or also with a cron.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade:

Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working.

    Glad you have it sorted.

There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting.
    ...
Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded?

If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver).

Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name).

You can see the quirk with the following command:

    [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root:

Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade:

You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8.

LOL... sorry, I don't work here. While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

    @EChondo

    What's your pfSense version ?
The instructions are shown here :

    1acdc586-cb29-4148-9e36-81ade4e5e60c-image.png

A restart of a service will start by re creating their config files. If a certificate changed, it will get included. When the process starts, it will use the new certificate.

@EChondo said in Issue with ACME Certificates Refresh & Restarting HAProxy:

I haven't been able to confirm if the above works(mine just renewed, don't feel like doing it again just to test), so we'll see in 60 days I guess.

No need to wait x days.
You can re test / renew right away, as you are 'allowed' to renew a couple (5 max ?) of times per week.

I had a similar issue with Routed VTI over IPsec recently. FRR lost its neighbors after rebooting or when a tunnel went down. It never re-discovered it automatically. Only restarting FRR (either in GUI or via CLI) brought the neighbors back.

When I manually added those under the OSPF neighbors tab in the GUI it seems to solve the problem as well.

    Hello,
I am unable to get the Tailscale package to work. The page at VPN > Tailscale > Authentication is stuck. It displays the error "Tailscale is not online," but also shows a "Logout and Clean" button, with no option to log in.
    link text

This state persists even after performing the following troubleshooting steps:

    Rebooting the pfSense router.

Completely uninstalling and reinstalling the Tailscale package multiple times.

Clearing browser cache and using a private browser window.

Toggling the main "Enable Tailscale" checkbox in the settings.

Checking the logs, which show the service gets a "terminate" signal and shuts down cleanly; it does not crash.

Manually trying to delete the state file with rm /var/db/tailscale/tailscaled.state, which failed because the file does not exist.

It appears that the package's configuration is corrupted in a way that persists even after reinstallation. Can anyone advise on how to perform a complete manual cleanup of all Tailscale files and settings?

I've read through some other posts about this, but they either didn't say whether the proposed solution worked or they were very convoluted and difficult to understand. Here is our scenario: We have 6 locations--Las Cruces (LC), Sunland Park (SP), El Paso (EP), Abilene (ABI), Fort Worth (FW), and Plano (PL). LC and ABI have software that is accessed by the other 4 locations via VPN. There are WireGuard VPNs set up between LC and those 4 locations (SP, EP, FW, PL), and ABI and those 4 locations (SP, EP, FW, PL). There is also a WireGuard VPN connection between LC and ABI. LC and ABI have 2 internet connections. SP, EP, FW, and PL each have one internet connection.

If the primary internet connection goes down at either LC or ABI and failover occurs to the secondary internet connection, is there a way to set up the WireGuard VPN connections so that they also failover without purchasing some 3rd party application?

    Thanks.

No, I want to bypass Squid entirely for certain trusted sites, ie banking and Microsoft.  Also have to bypass SSL filtering for email and IM so the client will connect properly.  Otherwise you the user/app gets a cert error (since it's MIM SSL).

After researching this a bit more I see it's not possible on the Squid/Squidguard side.  Squid is capturing the initial Connect of the SSL session and therefore can't bypass it.  It must be done at the firewall redirect level.

Any chance a more robust alias option is in the works?  Something that could pull categories for bypass like Squidguard does to block?  Have no idea what loading 100k entries into a firewall rule does…

    Thoughts?

Will try to re-install ntop and see.

Is it OK to choose all the interfaces during the configuration?

Well it was pretty easy - I had to check "Do not use the DNS Forwarder as a DNS server for the firewall" on the General Setup page.  Restarted Squid and with just the ? at the end of the redirect URL it works fine.

Fixed it myself by adding a new list in pfBlocker like this:

Create a new list in pfBlocker with the exact same name as the orphan table (see under Diagnostics -> Table).
Filled in an existing url and 1 hour update, deny inbound
Waited until the table was full in Diagnostics -> Tables
    Went back to pfBlocker
Selected the newly created list and selected "Disabled"
Checked in Diagnostics -> Tables (table has been deleted!)
Finally deleted the list in pfBlocker.
And now the orphaned table is gone!  ;D

In theory, Dansguardian is capable of doing what you suggest. There is an option in the group settings to enable it. From what I could find on the forums, this feature is not working on Dansguardian. Marcelloc would know for sure. It is working with squid3-dev, so you can do basic blocking and caching with that.

With haproxy you should be able to put the lines below in a 'advanced' section:

    reqrep ^([^\ :]*)\ /(.*)    \1\ /path/\2 reqirep ^Host:\ sub1.domain.ltd  Host:\ 192.168.10.10

I think that will take care of the rewriting.. However i think the rewriting of the host is actually not a nice thing to do, i think its better to configure a virtual directory which checks the proper domain name on the webserver.

Also read about this in the manual: http://cbonte.github.io/haproxy-dconv/configuration-1.5.html#4.2-reqrep

    Hi nublaii,

That haproxy doesnt 'respond' to service-stop service-start requests seems to be 'by design'.. This because the restarting of haproxy is not a combination of 'stop' and 'start', but haproxy does a pretty much seamless restart while transferring persistence information and finishing old connections through the old process.

However when you apply a new good configuration the process should restart with a new PID.
Could try and see if you use the haproxy-devel package you get that same behavior?

I've done quite a bit of modifications to that -devel package, also in the startup / config-checking. It can be if you configured something 'wrong' that haproxy doesnt start a new process and keeps the old one running..

If you've got the same problems there maybe i can help getting it diagnosed /fixed.

    ok sounds good, thanks.

if you need some one to test your new code id be interested.

Thank for the offer, but I was able to test the fix in my VMware environment.  The fix for auto-log rotation is ready and should be posted in a few days.  I found several issues in that old code.  Thank you for pointing out the problem.  I'm glad I looked… :)

    Thanks for reply.

I think I found what was the problem.

While making lists and groups I was saving lists and groups individually, but did not use "global" Save button.

    Seems like it's working now.

    All the best.

  • Snort still clearing blocked ip's even though it is set to "never"

Well whether the problem I had was real or not. I happened to try out binding to the Lan (instead of wan) for my snort interface. And I had the results I expected with blocked ip's staying blocked. I set it to "both" for direction. That seemed to fix it.

Only problem is snort cannot perform a portscan from this side of the network (lan). So I created two with this one on wan as a  rule-less snort interface (with portscan enabled). Which seemed to work. But annoying to see it warn me about no rules on the interface. And I probably have redundant preprocessing now.

So not sure why I had the problem originally, but there is a solution in case anybody has had problems.

Hopefully one day snort for pfsense will create the block list as a simple "Alias" table. Then snort2C wont be needed. And if Snort could be part of the rules chain order. (instead of first) Then the Whitelist inside of snort won't be needed either. Along with speeding it up since it will not process ip's destined to be blocked by the rule chain ahead of it. including ip's it has previously blocked.
