First, what gateway did you set for WAN on pfsense1? You are correct in thinking it should be 10.2 as that is the next gateway in getting to the internet. from LAN on pfsense1 to 172.16.10.3, should just be one hop. This is because 10.3 is on the same subnet as 10.1 (pfsense1).

Go to System -> Routing -> and edit the Gateway in question.  Click Advanced and you will find the Down option.

You may need to create a floating rule which pipes traffic into the load balancing gateway. - See http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,38882.0.html for good instructions and screenshots.

With Pfsense you cannot double your speed. You will only double your bandwidth with the configuration you have setup. If you image a running water pipe, if install another water pipe. It wont make the water run any faster, you just have more water coming from more than one place. So when you browse the internet the connection will spread over the 2 connections which will make you have more bandwidth.

Personally i would look into traffic shaping. There are loads of videos to watch on youtube.com as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5WvP2W1tjE

You are correct, the connection cannot be moved over to the other WAN in that way. If it comes in WAN1, it will go back out WAN1. Unless your server is capable of telling the client to redirect itself over to the IP of WAN2 and reconnect, but that doesn't really involve changing anything on pfSense.

It's not currently possible to keep it assigned and be able to unplug/plug it at will. We've had a few discussions about how to best handle that, and there is at least one open ticket covering some of the issues here http://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/593

This problem occured when I bought an actual router for my third WAN. The disconnect is just one second. Some days ago I upgraded the firmware of the other router and now the reconnect is just one second, too, and I have the same problem with the gateways and pfsense. http://www.interlockingwebsite.com/

Good idea, but I don't have any facility for doing that in the routers, or I can't find it anyway. They are TP-Link MR3420's with Sierra 320U USB Modems plugged in. It seems as though they support DD-WRT, which could possibly be made to do this, but I don't think they would then also support my USB Modems. I think that if I can work out how the Trigger Level in Routing Groups is created and works, I may be able to make a new Trigger Level that uses Total Traffic for an interface. Unfortunately for me I haven't the faintest idea how the Trigger Level works, so it's going to take a few days of spare moments to find out if I can even do this. Any hints or tips would be appreciated. Meanwhile, manually controlling the connections will continue to work.

@Nachtfalke: @costasppc When you create the Alias or enter the domain in the firewall you have to take care that mydomain.com will not cover subdomain.mydomain.com So you have to enter all domains and subdomains to the alias. But You got it working :-) Yes! Because I used the IPs… ;-) @Nachtfalke: Packet Capture: Are you using squid? So this could be the prpblem because all the traffic for http is redirected to squid and then pfsense/squid is doing the connection to the destination webserver and not your host. And this could also be a reason - not alsways LoadBalancing is the problem but squid is the problem. The website recognizes squid and this will cause sometimes problems. No I do not use Squid. Check a related discussion (and redmine link) at http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,53175.0.html Currently pfSense won't take the initiative to kill open states on WAN-fallback (understandable, since there are scenarios where it might be inappropriate), when WAN-main comes back online. Are you using "sticky" with configurable timer?

How do I set DDWRT for the whole vlans and multi ssid thing? I have found little help on the ddwrt site, and I know that others have gotten pfsense-ddwrt connection help here in the past. Thanks
