the injector is included in the cost of the AP with unifi, so $89 for the lite model comes with the injector..

So your going to leave your laptop as a wireless repeater in the garage?  Why do you need wifi when your in the driveway?

Anyway - Why do people always want to use a 15mm box wrench when the job calls for 5/8 inch socket.. Can't I just hammer in that nail with this screwdriver?  The hammer is all the way in the other room..

If you want better wifi coverage, then get some real accesspoints and deploy them in the area you want wifi coverage..  This is proper solution to good wifi..  Anything else is doing it wrong..

    Thanks for the replies guys.

You are both correct. But I don't want to spend too much time, because you are correct, it's not the best place for wifi and I do plan to plug in an ext AP with AC capability at a later date. But my reasoning for all in one is a temporary solution, as mneinoted, just like I had with my COTS product. Similary, I do want to get a separate efficient switch, but at the moment 3 LAN ports will be fine since most devices in teh house are wireless anyway. And you may say, why waste time with temporary solutions, again my excuse are:

too busy (I've got three little rugrats and still finishing off a new house…hence the want to build IT systems). I take a long time to figure things out, research things as best I can before taking the plunge, etc...

But you're all absolutely correct. It's just a shame I bought it with the WIFI card thinking it could be an interim solution so I could swap out the ISP supplied rubbish, but I can't without WIFI working. Next temp solution, is to plug the ISP supplied rubbish into one of the spare LAN ports...

Save yourself lots and lots of headache and get yourself a real AP, or use a wifi router you have laying around.. Any wifi router can be used as just an AP..

That is the best sort of help anyone could give you would be to keep you from going down the wrong path..  There is ZERO advantage to having a wifi card in your box to use as a AP..  And many many disadvantages..

Your AP should be in the ceiling or wall placed for best wifi coverage.. Not some pci card or worse even some usb stick in your router/firewall..

You bridged two different subnets with a DHCP server each and finally ran out of luck. Bridging them meant mixing the traffic at Layer 2 so you could get a reply from the wrong DHCP server.

Not bridging them means you properly route at Layer 3 between the two subnets and a DHCP client broadcast won't reach the DHCP server on the other subnet.

    Did I understood correctly?

Pending on your firewall rules the pfSense will route the entire traffic between this two IP ranges.

    @regal81:

a small note of interest to anyone if you reformat your drive to start fresh and you have a VPN you will need to remake the file in whatever directory you had it and impute username password.

Another note is that you don't need those files any more. Use the username and password fields in the OpenVPN client config.

I also have these errors. (stuck beacon and discard frame w/o leading ethernet header)
    My card is TP-LINK TL-WN881ND (WI1 chip1: Atheros AR9287)
I am fresh on pfSense with:
    2.2.6-RELEASE (amd64)
built on Mon Dec 21 14:50:08 CST 2015
    FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p25
    running on HP DC7900 with C2Q9400/8GB DDR2/2xSATA HDD/NV GT7300/HP NC360T/TL-WN881ND

On changing wireless channel pfSense crashes and reboots.
After reboot new channel is always accepted but errors still persists.

Is there a stable driver and way to change it without recompile pfSense installer and clean install?

This is the hardware i bought a week ago which is now sitting here with pfSense on it and i can't do much with it because Wifi is the only option to connect it to the other devices in my house: https://geizhals.eu/?cat=WL-431615&wlkey=8dfad8e0c5e11920d5b1a8691c1b7823

I wish i could just use ethernet but opening all the walls and putting in some ethernetcables is not really possible in this house … stonewalls everywhere.

I downloaded clearOS and sme server yesterday and when i get the time i will try both and hope that i get some sort of Wifi going.

The manual download button on https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?p=free-esxi6 is not working for me ... i registered yesterday maybe i have to wait a couple days idk.

Usually it means the frame it received was malformed. It could have been sent by the client incorrectly, or it could have encountered a problem processing the frame in the hardware or driver.

well yeah a mask of /32 is not correct for sure on your lan…  How is anything going to connect to that, that should most likely be /24 and also your wifi shows no carrier.

A little more information:  Using the TetherMe app on the iPhone.  Very little information available about the app.  Best I can tell it uses WPA2 (CCMP), no configurable settings.  The Wireless page under Status shows the iPhone SSID but the CAPS settings do not show WPA.  I know it uses WPA because my computers and iPad require it to connect.  Is it possible that pfSense (ath0 driver) does not try to connect because it does not see WPA as an option?  Of course, it does not connect if I de-select WPA.

1.) In the interface assign menu click on the "+"  and then the interface adding as OPT2 . Then you should see the new interface that owns a iwn name then it was recognized correctly by pfSense.

2.) In the interface setup the OPT2 must be activated then, set on static and configuring the IP address and mask. Please without building a bridge because this should be a own network for it self and the name is optional then.

3.) Set the WiFi interface in the mode "hostap" for runing an "WiFi accesspoint".
