    PPTP for 10 users is no problem for the P3 1ghz with that kind of WAN speed…..

    @nocer:

    …living on 7.2-based build...

    As am I…  I've seen much info, now that I'm getting caught back up with recent pfSense news, about the new 8.0-based builds, but they seem not to exist.  Any news on when they'll actually become available, or where they can be found?

    That asked, I've copied the ng_tcpmss.ko into place, and this allows me to bring up the PPPoE iface.  However, at random, the iface just dies.  Might run for minutes, might run for hours, and then it just drops off, loses IP, and will not reconnect until disabled and re-enabled.  I've run this same modem and account on older pfSense rev's, ZeroShell, etc.  This is the first I've experienced of this.  Since, I've run the ZeroShell VM again, for a few hours, and it does NOT experience any issue.  Is there anything that can be done about this?

    edit: minor misspelling correction, additional info...

    Hi,

    If this started happening since you updated to 726, then go back to 615, otherwise check to see if your pfbox configured passing the mcast frames correctly as bpdu uses well-known mcast addr for its destination. In your case mcast frames must have been discarded somewhere between WAN and OPT1.

    cheers,

    I have a home made nas…it's a monster of a machine =) i based it around the norco 4020 case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811219021

    Currently it has an Intel Q9550 and 8gb of ddr2 800  with 12 1tb drives.  I used FreeBSD 7.2 as the os so i could use ZFS (i probably would have used opensolaris but the hardware support with opensolaris isn't nearly as good as freebsd and it's really hard to find a cheap jbod card for opensolaris)  and i made 3 vdevs with 4 drives each...anyways, Freebsd with zfs is great...i used zfs to make my jails (just made a zfs filesystem, put all the stuff for a base jail in it and cloned it)  and i have a jail for each thing i want to run, or try out...like samba runs in it's own jail, mysql runs in it's own jail....it's awesome

    originally i was using torrentflux-b4rt for my torrenting...and it's a great bit of software but it's highly inefficient.  Each torrent is a separate process....because of that i really needed the traffic shaping to work correctly....well since then i've switched to rtorrent which has global settings.

    rtorrent is amazing and there is a webui called rutorrent that is REALLY nice. check it out at http://code.google.com/p/rutorrent/

    I haven't tried 2.0 in awhile....if it's working better i might have to try it out...it's been like 3-4 months since i've used it

    Hi,

    Try this:

    In the shell or "Diagnostics / Command"

    = vr0 interface connected to the modem
    Ip address = 192.168.1.1 to pfsense on the same track in modem

    ifconfig vr0 alias 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0

    Now in firewall / Rules create a rule to Lan

    192.168.0.0/24 * 192.168.1.254 * *  - Default LAN -> Modem

    Which says that any packet of any protocol from the network 192.168.0.0/24 (LAN) to the ip 192.168.1.254 (ip modem) will have access.

    Diablo266,
      I'm seeing the same behavior.  I use the wizard to setup the traffic shaper and in my case I set the P2P catchall to 40% of my bandwidth.  Everything is classified as P2P by default.  I have found that I need to change the floating rules in order to get them to match the correct traffic.

    For instance, to get (port 80)web traffic correctly put into the low queue, I edited the rule and changed direction from out to any.  After I did that the traffic was correctly identified and put in the correct queue.

    I'm trying to figure out what exactly the "direction" field stands for when used in the floating rules context, but I haven't quite figured it out yet.  If the rule wasn't floating and was tied to a particular interface it would make more sense to me… I'll keep looking.  Unless Ermal wants to swoop in and lay a knowledge bomb on us. :)

    Thanks.  I was just curious. You can hardly buy a computer with less than 6 gig now.  I think that there are SOME things you could do with more ram.  With ram, powerful cpu, and hard drives so cheep now you could presumably have a REALLY BIG web cache. Or load the OS to a ram disk while still running snort in high performance AC mode.  But you are right its almost inconceivable that you would need a simple router with so much ram and if you did you could just use multiple machines.

    I have a similar problem.

    I just installed squid and cacheboy.  Went to general and tried to save.  Got Fatal error: Cannot redeclare php_sync_package() (previously declared in /usr/local/pkg/backup.inc:78) in /usr/local/pkg/notes.inc on line 39

    I am using pfSense-2.0-ALPHA-ALPHA-20090724-1400.iso.gz
