@Taz79 said in Can SG-1100 running on 12V battery supply?:

It would be fun to know what voltage tolerances the SG-1100 board could handle though (due to design).

    13V
The Z-Diode at the input limits it. Then there's the 470µF/16V capacitor in parallel.
See page 6 in the schematics (this is a v5 schematic, SG-1100 is v7, though)

I'd use something like a 1N5400 diode in front of the device. That can handle 3A and has a forward voltage (drop) of 1,0V to 1,2V.
The board itself has "Less than 1W thermal dissipation at 1 GHz". That's as much as you'll have on the 1N5400 alone... or damn effective.

ZFS is recommended. If you have 2 x 256GB SSD then use ZFS Mirror - n - Way Mirroring.

@ErniePantuso Yes, we have a newsletter you can sign up to get alerts from us. https://www.netgate.com/resources/newsletters/

You can also enable the RSS widget (on the system dashboard, click the + (plus button), in the upper right side, click the RSS feed.

If there is an update you will get a notification on the dashboard saying "Update is available"

I would just purchase a Raspberry Pi or another "Odroid" device if you want to install Debian for learning purposes.

There is no need to set the gateway for IPv6 since there is only one possible route - the default route.

If you were to, say, get native IPv6 and maintain the HE tunnel it might be necessary to start policy routing IPv6.

I would change the default gateway IPv4 there from Automatic to the failover gateway group that best suits how you want the default IPv4 route to behave.

@stephenw10 Sounds like it should be fine to meet my 200 Mbps internet. I am trying pfSense on a spare computer I had. If it works I might just buy the SG-3100. Thanks!

Yes I would also say you should be looking at the SG-3100.

That UDP number seems wild.... like it lost almost all the traffic. How did you test that?

That is a good, stackable, PoE, gigabit switch.

Beware that I believe the fact that it is PoE means it is not fanless.

    The ICX6430-24 (non-PoE) is fanless.

You also want to confirm if it is a 6430 or a 6450. The item description says 6430 - the description says 6450 which is a base layer 3 switch. The 6430 is not.

ow, used sg-3100 as client of the iperf
and the history is different now:

Client connecting to 192.168.255.250, TCP port 5001
TCP window size: 64.2 KByte (default)

    [ 3] local 192.168.255.249 port 48963 connected with 192.168.255.250 port 5001
    [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth
    [ 3] 0.0-10.0 sec 1.06 GBytes 912 Mbits/sec

    Thanks very much guys

If you separate out one of the switched ports using a VLAN there is an option there to set a switch port for that vlan interface to monitor. That way is will show as 'down' to the os if the port is unplugged. Otherwise the VLAN will always show as up because the internal link to the switch cannot go down.

@fernandopf said in SG-3100 restart looping:

    /sbin/fsck -y /

How many times did you run that? You need to run it at least 3 times, more won't hurt.

Sometimes I really question myself why I write all this (and even post pictures). Didn't you read it, did not understand what I wrote or is it just the greed to get something for free?

    @Derelict,

I confirmed that after installing and configuring the M.2 drive I can actually switch back and forth between the two configurations simply by setting the "Hard Disk Drive BBS Priority" order in the BIOS setup under the "Boot" tab.

    Thanks again. ☺

I'm not aware of a BIOS update for that firewall. If there were anything it might be a cpu microcode update for meltdown/spectre but we update that at boot anyway.

SIP is just UDP (usually). Your question is better-aimed at your SIP equipment/services and whether they are tolerant of NAT.

There is no SIP ALG in pfSense other than one small proxy daemon that is used for one use case that is pretty rare these days.
