    Yeah there was just a thread not that long ago... Let me see if I can dig it up.. But threads all the time where they are running 2.1 versions of pfsense.. Which came out back in 2014

    Guy was complaining that he just bought the thing and it failed.. Clearly it was atleast 4 years.

    @chrismacmahon said in Cooling an SG-4680 1U:

    The 1u has the PSU built into the case; I would be hesitant to remove the fans cooling everything down.

    You should be able to see if it's the PSU or CPU fan that is making the noise.

    Tonight I had time to inspect. It's the PSU fan that is working in a noticeable sound frequency range.
    Although the external psu's can operate without fan, I won't disable the fan in this internal piece.

    @akuma1x said in Cooling an SG-4680 1U:

    Have you measured the fans to see if you can find replacement parts?

    If it were me, I would contact Netgate support and ask them for the fan specs (RPM, physical measurements, air flow, mother board connector pins, etc.) on this particular model. Then go find some that match, or see if you can order replacements from them directly.

    Jeff

    The fan in the psu seems to have standard dimensions with 40x40x12mm.
    The power wires are soldered or gummed. Cutting the wires and connecting a new fan with a connector block might do the trick.

    Hmm, OK you don't see anything before 12.05? The log entries running up to the reboot are more likely to show the issue.

    Are you running /var as a ram disk possibly?

    And crash reports would be in /var/crash if you only have ssh access but if /var is a ram disk they will not be present.

    Thanks for the replies, and I appreciate the insights, Gerjan. I got my hands on a cable and tried it out, but no dice. Latest driver installed, attempting to connect w/ Putty, and there's nothing.

    I've created a ticket as suggested by Chris Macmahon. Hoping Netgate can help me out as it would be a shame if a $300+ device was already dead.

    From 7 months ago? Probably the SG-1100 or maybe the SG-5100 as well.

    That is the default, untagged VLAN.

    The switchports you connect the XG-7100 untagged ports to can put that traffic on whatever VLAN you choose by setting the PVID/native VLAN on those switchports.

    @hbauer said in confidentiality of serial numbers and netgate ids:

    Does this mean somebody else is able to by support with my id? And if yes what happens if somebody buys support and then later I want to buy support to?

    You would thank them, since support is per device and tied to the ID, you would have access to support if your ID was used in that way.

    If you get serial console on one 8860 and not another using the same terminal device and cable, I would open a ticket at https://go.netgate.com/ so warranty status can be determined.

    @grimson Pretty new to these appliances, when I get an option on a WWW interface it gives the impression it is no big deal and it should just work. Your instructions make it seem more like something that is much more finicky. I do not have much more to tell you about the details, the www interface got to a point it said it was completed successfully and stayed there. I tried to go to the diagnostics -> reboot but at that point it was hung. When I got to the console after it was power cycled, which was the instructions from a Netgate documentation page that did not say use the console to try it. The www interface never came back. The errors are all around .so and .dll files not found and unable to load libraries.

    I just got a portal account and downloaded the image file, will burn it and reload the unit. See where it stands and then reload the config XML file and hopefully be back where I started.

    Thanks you for your help.

    Everything should be the same as any TAP bridge. You'll just have OPT and LAN on the same switch VLAN.

    I should add that the OpenVPN connection is successful and the Tunnel IP address is assigned corectly from the remote server.
