Use pkg remove.

I meant install an mSATA drive into the 4860 and switch to booting from that instead. But if you have a complete spare unit it's not really an issue.

I figured out what happened after taking another stab at it. Manually assigning the ports did the trick. I was able to setup the router after that.

The VLAN on WAN, 4090 by default, only applies to the internal switch. So simply moving the VLAN parent to ix0 or igb3 would only work if VLAN 4090 is defined correctly on the external switch they are connected to.
If that's not the case the new WAN interface would be directly ix0 or igb3 without a VLAN.

@wizardofwhere I think you have the pfsense plugged into the wrong place. I would have modem, to pfsense wan, pfsense lan to switch, vpn is going to take some work because that also needs wan access. You probably need the linksys plugged into same switch and rules on the pfsense to forward traffic for the vpn.

Sounds as if you're having hardware issue...try pfSense 2.4.5rc to see whether you have the same exact issue.

Problem solved. You need to set "Westmere" or "kvm64" CPU type instead of host passthrough in libvirt/virsh/kvm/qemu configuration file "virsh edit $vmname"
