    @seh2000:

    @jimp:

    It shouldn't be too hard for someone to write a widget for the dashboard to handle the ACPI thermal stuff if it's supported on their hardware. I have had it on my to-do list for probably two years now but haven't found the time and inclination to make it. :-)

    Oops I was not trying to be offensive, by indicating "…not too hard for someone"...!

    Nothing offensive anywhere there, just saying that if someone had hardware that was supported by that method and knew some PHP coding it might be easy to write for someone who was interested in taking that on. It would certainly be more lightweight than a full-blown phpsysinfo package, and wouldn't require any extra software. Just a sysctl command and parsing the output.

    Just a note that this problem is still present in RC3. It's pretty bizarre. Here's my log, and below is the shaper config. There's a bug open, but I can't update it right now, as Redmine seems to be botched again.

    Yes, the problem went away with a newer snapshot. (pfSense-2.0-RC3-4g-i386-20110623-1345-nanobsd-upgrade.img.gz)

    [SOLVED] - Thank you!

    Is it recognised correctly by the est driver?
    If you run 'powerd -v' at the console you can get real time output as to what powerd is doing and is trying to do.
    It works great on my Pentium-M box but it's a mobile cpu so well supported.

    I've just looked again at /var/etc/mpd_wan.conf and my edit to add "log +all" has gone. Maybe this file is regenerated on enabling an interface rather than startup time.

    Which leaves the puzzle of why there was no ppp logging. Something not correctly synchronised at startup?

    @jimp:

    Not that I'm aware of, we have a ton of users that use ESX, and if there was a problem that major, there would be a lot more people complaining.

    Never mind.  My switch configs were changed at some point in the last week while I was out of town.  I thought I checked that first, but I was wrong.  Oh well.  Waste of 2 hours.  :)

    Before you do anything else, update to a current snapshot.

    The i386 and amd64 versions are built on separate machines, they will always have different times because they take longer/shorter time to compile the images, and those aren't build numbers, they are timestamps.

    The update source shows i386, so there is no way that the amd64 images were there.

    The GUI was probably sluggish because you didn't have working DNS, because the WAN was down. As for why the WAN was down, without more information it's impossible to say. Going from RC1 to RC3 is painless for almost everyone, we'd need to see a lot more information about your hardware or any errors you might have had in the logs or console when you were on RC3.

    @SeventhSon:

    You need to bridge you LAN and WLAN if you want to make it an AP. WAN isn't used on an AP.

    You wouldn't even need to bridge unless you want the wireless network to be on the same segment as the LAN. If you create firewall rules that allow traffic to LAN and/or WAN you can use PfSense as an AP.

    I'm not sure about that. I don't recall what it wants in there, though I thought it wanted a hostname, not an IP address.

    Whew, okay!  Was getting worried there for a minute after reading the updates.  Really hope that the Traffic Shaper comes along, and look forward to being able to test it out!

    Diagnostics > Backup/Restore, click the Clear Package Lock button.

    And check your console for errors because that wouldn't have gotten stuck there unless some package had failed to reinstall properly.
