Hi, I had a problem with my home network today, so I checked pfsense and discovered that suricata had blocked the wan ip. After some tests and triggering some suricata alerts, the wan ip was blocked. I restarted pfsense and ran some more tests, but the problem no longer occurred. I then checked the wan interface settings and indeed the ip list does not include the wan ip, both now that it's working and before, when it was blocked. I'm using pfsense 2.8.0 and suricata 7.0.8_2. I use PPPoE to access the Internet.

@Leon-Straathof Data retention settings are handled inside of ntopng. Documentation here. Pay attention to the RRD note. Also, if you've turned on some of the slice and dice time series information (is off by default), I'd suggest turning them back off. These balloon the storage requirements and are of little actual use.

Ran into this issue today as well running on 25.07.1 with pfblockerNG-devel 3.2.7. Followed the steps outlined in this thread to edit the pfblockerng.sh file, then deleted/force reloaded all the lists, and all was well again. Thank you everyone in this thread for your your help and great instructions.

@jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: Interesting. I would have thought the initial reboot, which occurred as part of the upgrade, would have done the trick, but it took a second reboot, just now, to get things working. Glad you have it sorted. There was no difference in the output of usbconfig show_ifdrv at any point -- before or after unplugging/replugging the USB cable, nor after rebooting. ... Question: What would tell me whether or not a driver was loaded? If there were an attached driver, it should have shown up with the show_ifdrv command. If you use the command and look at the other usb devices, I think they will show attached drivers. I don't expect to see a driver attached to the ups, because there is a quirk that tells the OS to ignore that device (and not attach a driver). Look for idVendor and idProduct in the above output. The Vendor ID for your device is 0764, which corresponds to Cyber Power Systems, and the Product ID for your device is 0601, which is registered as "PR1500LCDRT2U UPS" (don't sweat an exact match for the name). You can see the quirk with the following command: [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: usbconfig dump_device_quirks | grep 0764 VID=0x0764 PID=0x0005 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0501 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE VID=0x0764 PID=0x0601 REVLO=0x0000 REVHI=0xffff QUIRK=UQ_HID_IGNORE [25.07-RC][root@fw]/root: Your device is third on the list. The HID_IGNORE quirk says to ignore the device and not attach a driver. @jhg said in NUT fails to start after 2.7.2 -> 2.8.0 upgrade: You might consider adding this resolution to the release notes for 2.8. LOL... sorry, I don't have input to the release notes (I don't work here). While I wrote and maintain various packages, including NUT, I'm still just a volunteer. Most packages are actually written by volunteers.

@provels said in updating to acme 1.0 breaks system beyond repair: need to restore from backup: This same mess happened to me, even w/o Acme, going from 25.07 to *.1. Blew, reinstalled w/ Crowdsec, blew again, reinstalled, clipped all the Crowdsec info from config.xml, restored config, back to normal. Crowdsec is a great concept, but I think I'm out. I never had this issue with Crowdec before the ACME update, even with updating from 2.7 to 2.8 there was no issues. In fact after restoring from a backup after the ACME update, Crowdsec reinstalled just fine, and this was before the recent release a couple days ago that contained a fix.

Hi all, I wanted to share that I’m also experiencing issues with Tailscale (v1.86.4) on the latest pfSense CE (v2.8.0). After either a pfSense reboot or a Tailscale service restart, my node is logged out of Tailscale — exactly as many of you have described here. It bothered me enough that I opened a support ticket with the Tailscale team. I explained the problem, included details, and linked this thread as a reference. The good news is that support responded quickly and said they’re setting up a pfSense VM to reproduce the issue. In the meantime, they suggested a workaround: “Based on the behavior described here and in the thread, it looks like the auth key used for authentication may be expiring. Since OAuth clients don’t expire, switching to an OAuth Client rather than an Auth Key might resolve this. See our docs here: https://tailscale.com/kb/1215/oauth-clients#registering-new-nodes-using-oauth-credentials I tested this, and after configuring Tailscale with OAuth, everything worked! Tailscale now stays connected and authenticated even after a reboot or service restart. That said, I did tell support that while OAuth solves the issue, it used to work out of the box with the simpler interactive login / auth key flow. Something seems to have changed on the Tailscale side, and I hope they identify and fix it. But until then, the OAuth workaround is a solid fix. I’d love to hear how it’s working for the rest of you. Anyone else try OAuth yet? Cheers

I figured out the issue. I missed adding the 3rd locations Lan to the static routing. Now all is working perfect.

@jimp: It would also help to see the output of this when it is in the broken state: var_dump($config['installedpackages']['package']); Run that in the PHP Execute section of Diagnostics > Command. Sorry for the long delay. It's been a little while since I've had to deploy another system and I haven't had the time to troubleshoot this on its own. I did another one today, and the output of the above command was NULL. Notes doesn't work this time either, none of the packages do. Installed packages in the GUI shows nothing, but I do still have entries in the services menu that don't work, so I will have to reinstall al packages manually again. I appreciate your help on this, Jim. I should have another system to deploy soon so I'll be able to get back to you more quickly. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The package's xml passes lint, so it seems OK for me. If the fixed worked, it's probably fine.

uTorrent will get out on a single open port including DNS. I have been unsuccessful in being able to completely block p2p. More and more p2p torrent applications will tunnel their way through anything. Even if you block every single tracker out there DHT will still work. If this is for a work environment or a place where there are professional consequences then the only way to handle p2p traffic completely is to have your users sign an agreement and hold them accountable when that agreement is broken.

seems I am talking to myself here.. :( I parsed the access.log file and the dates are missing there also.. so either the user switched off the pfsense box or squid just stopped working…. No rotation was on, so perhaps the log files just got too big? Can someone tell me the relation of the Squid rotate log scheduler (for Squid light) and the Log rotate setting in my proxy server? Currently the latter is 30, if I make the Squid light setting "weekly at Saturday" surely I must change the squid setting to 7 then? thx.

I downloaded the latest rules, enabled some of them and also enabled preprocessors. The directory snort is looking for does not exist, do you think it could be missing from the latest snort package? I didn't have this problem with the previous version.

Welcome to Installation With this option, it is possible to install phpBB3 onto your server. In order to proceed, you will need your database settings. If you do not know your database settings, please contact your host and ask for them. You will not be able to continue without them. You need: The Database Type - the database you will be using. The Database server hostname or DSN - the address of the database server. The Database server port - the port of the database server (most of the time this is not needed). The Database name - the name of the database on the server. The Database username and Database password - the login data to access the database. Note: if you are installing using SQLite, you should enter the full path to your database file in the DSN field and leave the username and password fields blank. For security reasons, you should make sure that the database file is not stored in a location accessible from the web. phpBB3 supports the following databases: MySQL 3.23 or above (MySQLi supported) PostgreSQL 7.3+ SQLite 2.8.2+ Firebird 2.1+ MS SQL Server 2000 or above (directly or via ODBC) Oracle Only those databases supported on your server will be displayed. How to complete them?

I had similar problem with some sites (sorceforge.net was one of them) with the same error. The problem was snort and an ET rule. Find the IP of that site and search in the blocked (snort) IPs and search for an Alert with the IP in /var/log/snort/alert file.

I have been running into problems when it comes to updating squid. I just install squid3, uninstall squid, uninstall squid3 install squid. Could be I just need to redo the FWs but it works for now, at least for me its not that big a deal.

OK. I setup a second instance in logging-only mode with just the rules that would be relevant to the workstations I'm concerned with (virus, malware, phishing, etc). After I get a better idea of what rules are relevant to the LAN, and which are relevant to the WAN, I'll divide the rulesets between the two sensors and have both operate in blocking mode. I think this would be the most efficient use of resources.

I rolled the 1.2.3 package down to the previous version again. I had feedback from someone on the forum who said it worked after the change was made, but it seems to cause problems for others. After about 5 minutes it should show up on the package server.

well i am sorry to bother you. i guess my mistake though. I even tried to install 1.2.3 which at first run on the default config ACL of squidguard. and then when i try to create some custom ACLs and Destinations then that trigger the problem for squidguard not to filter anything at all. I should be very carefull on that. I return back my hard drive with 2.0 beta4 installation and reconfigure the ALCs and Destinations and it's working fine again. thank you very much. cheers! :)

Im going to assume just packages on PF as thats all you listed Snort- no blocking as on one system it likes to block itself, just lets me know about the malicious traffic Squid- speed up Internet, also can prove who did what if accused of something because of the http logs Country Block-I block country's I dont like in and out Cron- i run clamav, other stuff listed there is standard or required by a package dashboard-see everything at a glance phpSysInfo- see how components are doing nut-so it turns off gracefully ntop/darkstat-mostly for statistics and future planning nmap-basic scanning from fw, for more basic i use a diff system

https does not work with transparent mode. It can't, due to the way SSL security works. As for configuring the proxy settings, have a look here: http://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/WPAD_Autoconfigure_for_Squid
