@johnpoz So, you really did manage to put the cart before the horse... But seriously, you do make a good point about order when needing to make a system change in the middle of an update. I'll note this.

Double the TDP maybe but that does not represent consumption given the same load. You might consider something with less cores at higher frequency instead. Steve

If you can test a 21.05 snapshot it should be there already.

Ah, indeed you can't fit an expansion card to the desktop version. The limitation is in the SoC which contains the 4 ix NICs. The data lines to read the media info from the the SFP directly are not included as I understand it. It's very unlikely this will be changed with a driver update alone. Steve

@stephenw10 Ok. I started to track down where each device is plugged in. In the process I discovered that the FIOS router is indicating no connection. However, I still have internet. The indicator light is hidden from normal view, so this may have always been the case because it is in bridge mode. I apologize for any confusion. This looks like a case of my Netgate rebooting itself for an unknown reason.

That's a filesystem error. You can probably escape that with a filesystem check. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DKr1Dvan5I&t=79s You might want to re-install clean anyway though since you are still running 2.4.4p3. @curtisj - does this help you at all - it worked for me (twice recently) https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/solutions/sg-1100/reinstall-pfsense.html I have around a dozen SG-1100 in production, they tend to arrive to me in two's or three's so I configure, and software upgrade them one after another, and ship them out. This gives me a some sort of impression of how consistently they behave. Anyway, the last three arrived with me just over a month ago, and I performed a vanilla out-of-the-box config on them, and then the upgrade to pFsense Plus. One decided to brick itself rather than take the upgrade (so I used the procedure above to recover it) and the other two took the upgrade just fine via the web ui. And now I'm thinking about it, there was one that I stuck a label-printed note onto the top that I was unable to serial console onto it.... Maybe I'll revisit that unit and use the warranty. As I'm supplying them to technically-capable users, but not neccessarily firewall technically familiar, I perform multiple reboots before shipping them out and always keep a copy of the final config. But again in this most recent batch one decided that it would be a brick after being DHL'd to the user. Used the procedure above, and blasted the config back onto it, and it's been fine since.

That wifi card definitely works OK in something else? There is nothing special about the XG-7100 that should be any problem there. Steve

@alpharulez Sorry, but I never got around to installing the M.2 2280 SSD in the SG-3100. It went into production and I didn't want to disrupt the school's network. If I switch routers in the future, I will be upgrading the storage when I bring the 3100 back into the shop.

@stephenw10 No worries, it's all good now and I wanted a copy of the install image anyway.

@nocling said in pfSense Plus 21_02 Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode: Please ask the dev team, im a customer. The Brach musst match the version you run, if you run 2.4.5p1, the brach musst be 2.4.5. Then you can get Plugins for the 2.4.5 Version. I think your brach is set to 2.5, you run 2.4.5 -> no Plugins available. Hi, I have rolled back to 2.4.5 P1 set the branch to 2.4.5 and everything works as it should. Thanks for the help. I am staying put on this version till Plus gets sorted. The post upgrade experience was unusually painful. Rather strange for pfSense upgrades which have always worked (near) perfectly all these years. I upgraded without a second thought in the past. But now I'll hold back for a while. Cheers!

@stephenw10 Hi, The WAN is fiber connexion for both of the internet connexion, the gateway monitoring is set the DNS of the provider. When activating the 1 wan interface on the standby netgate, I get packet failed due to the CPU and then the load average growing up on the netgate. when i desactivate the WAN the CPU slow down, and all come back quietly. I was thinking it coming from the switch part, and I reconstruct it on the second netgate, stil the same. what i don't understand, is when i make a packet capture on the trouble wan interface, i get only broadcast from the LAN interface, ( no promiscious mode) and no VRRP , no connexion from IP public, etc.. All the wan is connected directly to the ISP router. thanks

@jcyr Understanding how the switch ports work and are named on the SG-1100 can take a bit of getting used to. I'm not sure how well it well import the old network interface and VLAN information without a bit of manual tweaking of the config file. If there are problems Netgate support will help with importing an old config into one of their devices. No support contract needed.
